For the most part I'd agree with one or two slight variations. Solid list though. I'd love to see what Simon has to say.

I don't get why you all have your panties in a bunch over a FREE blog train. If you don't like how it's run, don't participate. If you want to be a part of it, then don't complain when things don't go the way you think they should.

My post. I should add this was before everyone had their freebies up. Here are some to add ::

http://bonscrapatitdesigns.blogspot.com/

There are some on the list that would be great but haven't gotten their parts up like GBGDesigns, Misty Cato is generally solid, etc.

Again ... not saying you are wrong ... just different tastes for different people. The only one of those I'd bother to download is Tracie Stroud. The rest is a totally different style of scrapping that doesn't appeal to me at all.

I don't think this list is crap, they could be super well made (I don't know as I didn't download), I am just not interested in any of these portions.

correction - I also like the mini by julieitis :)

On top of that there were designers that said they e-mailed or PM'd her weeks ago to say they couldn't participate. Surgery or not she dropped the ball. Now she will probably post some sob story in the DCR about how she doesn't have to organize it, etc, etc, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if she doesn't do it next month and honestly, that is fine with me.

Whether she delegates or not shouldn't be the issue. It takes her time to put everything together and make sure people aren't dropping at the last minute which I think was the case this time as before. No one else has offered to do it all. Yes, she had a couple helpers in the beginning but I don't think they wanted to ever be in charge and take over the blog train. She doesn't get paid for her time and effort. Obviously even things for free have to get beat to death and blame spread because there are people who just aren't satisfied no matter what. If you don't want to participate then keep your bloody mouths shut but quit ruining it for those who did. Amazing that there are still some 100 designers who participate every other month. Obviously the majority haven't bothered to take your advice.

Life has been so busy, peeps. I wonder where September went!

Just to add my 2 cents - I can't BELIEVE Alyssa and her Bean Bunny friend are starting their own shop. I really hope no one is foolish enough to join that store.

I haven't made any time for store reviews because they don't get a lot of conversation going anyway. I see Piers' last review got like 1 comment. Not really worth my time to type things up. The blog train, however, we all love to talk about - probably because we can all download things since it's free. Whatever the reason, I have some time today and wanted to check it out.

And the reason people make "such a big deal" about a free blog train is because it's advertising. Any designer worth their salt wants to make a good impression for potential customers and it sucks when people running the show can't pull their heads out of their asses. Any of you idiots reading this who don't realize that should buy a clue. A big one.

If your blog isn't below, I thought your stuff was rubbish and moved on.

After I unzipped everything, I deleted some of the elements and some of the papers. I was left with 2 alphas, 62 papers, and 67 mostly basic elements. It took me an hour to go through the train, download and unzip everything and write this review. Personally, this month's train is really lacking. There is nothing I downloaded I couldn't make myself, but it saved me some time for sure. I can't make 62 papers, no matter how basic, in an hour. So, it was worth it from that standpoint.

Of everyone I downloaded, if you're really pressed for time, I recommend Tracie Stroud's for sure. Hers is the most comprehensive all in one direct download zip.

Stuff I downloaded:
http://www.sugarscraps.com/
http://blog.trixiescraps.com/ (plaids only, not the alphas - I hate round bead alphas)
http://julieitis.blogspot.com/
http://sixtyeight.wordpress.com/
http://eyeinspire.com/blog/ (simple, but nice, crisp textures)
http://luvewedesigns.com/ (for the last paper only)
http://mikkidesigns.blogspot.com/ (for papers only)

Went through the DST blog train today - I am more likely to DL if there is a direct download - if it's hosted on 4hsared, especially, I really have to think about whether I want to deal with those wait times. Was pleased to see that so many people have found a way to host their own freebies.

This train was hard b/c I'm not a fan of purples or pastels or muted colors... but I may be able to use things for cards or Mother's Day layouts in the future.

As for the theme vs. no-theme, I'm not a fan of the "theme-less" trains. All of the kits I've purchased, created, or snagged are arranged by theme - and a themeless kit is hard to sort! The "Monkey Business" theme a while back was a bit narrow, BUT, truthfully, I was annoyed at kits that DIDN'T include something monkey or zoo-oriented... I thought that was the point of that month's blog train. (But I digress...)

Here are the kits I downloaded this time around:

http://bothmadandgenius.blogspot.com/ - it was just as she titled it "soft and pretty" - could be cute for a mom's day layout.

http://blueheartscraps.com/ - cute alpha and papers.

http://magsgraphics.blogspot.com/ - I like the wedding twist and the elements, especially.

http://www.sugarscraps.com/ - very clean elements and papers. I like these.

http://creationcassel.com/blog/ - I like the folded ribbon and confetti.

http://letmescrapbook.blogspot.com/ - Love the "boy" themed stuff.

http://blog.trixiescraps.com/ - I like the alpha.

http://mariehdesignsscrap.blogspot.com/- I like the papers and the ribbons.

http://mybagofscraps.com/ - Was intrigued by the scattered leaf paper.

http://julieitis.blogspot.com/ - pretty papers and very cute elements!

http://bzb-designs.com/blog/ - I liked those star elements.

http://ellielash.com/blog/ - Simple and cute.

http://digilicious.typepad.com/digi_licious_designs/ - loved that word art!

http://digitalcreationsfrommillstreamcottage.blogspot.com/ - a very generous set of stuff - and a neat idea for her theme.

http://digideborahsdesigns.blogspot.com/ - Clean, cute, and simple.

http://eyeinspire.com/blog/ - I liked all of it, really.

http://www.kookycatdesigns.blogspot.com/ - fun squirrel and I like the elements.

http://www.wishingwellcreations.com/ - LOVED the football theme!! Very clever!! And the colors were probably hard to adapt, but she offers other colors in her store. Nice tie-in.

http://wordartfun.blogspot.com/ - I liked it all.

http://scrappingartistry.com/ - Can't go wrong with anything "coffee!"

http://www.jen-c-designs.com/blog/ - liked it all.

http://janetb-designs.blogspot.com/ - liked the circle tag and string.

http://luvewedesigns.com/ - cute elements

http://inthesmallthings-scraps.blogspot.com - neat tree!

http://www.traciestrouddesigns.com - liked it all

http://louisefranksdesigns.com - neat having it be a handyman-type kit

http://scrappingwithangel.blogspot.com/ - cute papers

http://kimetc.blogspot.com/ - I liked the whole thing.

http://studioqscrap.com/ - liked it all

http://www.pixelscrapper.com - liked it all

http://riekarafita.blogspot.com/ - liked that it was heavy on the browns vs. the purples.

http://www.deliscraps.blogspot.com/ - love the owls

I know it's a larger list than others have posted - but this takes into account that these items were FREE and have potential.
Plus what I can't use for my own personal layouts, can possibly be used for cards and gift layouts.

Not the OP but I think it's a waste of time talking about that person's picks instead of just making your own. Why are you smacking the taste of an anonymous poster?

Why not go through and make your own observations instead of commenting on someone else's picks. Besides, obviously more people like the designs listed than just the OP.

They weren't even the first one to list those picks.

Yes, that was the first list. Sorry. And she didn't smack person, just her list. Get a grip. I'm so over some of you sanctimonious little preachers.

I remember this kit when she tried to come back as a newbie designer -TiffanyDazzle - almost right after Studio Demo was "retired." I guess store owners were all on to her and her many names then, that's why she needs to open one of her own. I hope designers and CTs have enough sense to google this new store before applying.

I read your post. When was she involved in pirating? All I remember is that she acted a fool here, at DST and on her FB page and that she had a run in with a store owner that caused her to get the boot from her shop at FPD. I faintly remember hearing something about her deleting FTP files too. But I don't remember anything about pirating. I know a collab partner stole money from her, which is what started the whole mess here. But the pirating...what did I miss?

Anonymous said...

^^^
I was wondering about pirating as well. A little clarification would be nice. In any case, thanks for putting it out there, "Jilly". It's just enough to make people think twice and start doing their own digging for info before getting involved with the store. If they don't, well then they deserve whatever might be coming for them.

-------------

I'm not the OP so I don't know for sure what she was referring to when she mentioned piracy, but I do know that when the whole Studio Demo/Alyssa fiasco took place a few months ago, someone (Shilo? nobody knows for sure) kept coming on here and making references to Alyssa's past identities at the BabyGaga site. That site was absolutely teeming with piracy of digital kits around the same time. So at the very least, she was involved at a site (while designing digital goods) that is well-known for digital scrapbooking piracy.

Anonymous said...

Yes I'm positive. She didn't want to see SUN close and none of the other sunshine girls were able to take over at the time so she tried running both. She figured out she didn't have time to run both and have them both succeed, which is when Monica took over.

Anonymous said...

I am sure that Alyssa was involved in pirating when she was at Babygaga, and if that blog she's started is any indication, she's still involved in Babygaga, because she's giving away free Babygaga profile backgrounds.

But the pirating is a minor issue to me, because the other thing she did at Babygaga was post addresses and personal information of people she had issues with. Alyssa is NOT someone anyone would want to have access to any kind of personal information.

She already has numerous digital identities, I shudder to think what she could do with the kind of information a store owner gets from enrolling new designers and processing transactions.

Anonymous said...

so that thread at DST is gone already?? copied and pasted the link....and get an 'unknown thread' message.

Nicole didn't come back as owner just help get the site back on it's feet. It proved to be too much with running TDC as well. Amanda Kay was (is?) owner of the site, Monica (mgl) took over after Nicole left but I'm not sure if she was still an owner, I know at one time she was. The site was started by the Sunshine Girls, think there was originally 8 owners and as time went on they went on their own way and Sunshine Studio went downhill

I dont't know if people are aware that in most forums/stores, it is very easy for the admin to cross-reference IP addresses and see who just created an account to post something nasty, rude or something they would not want others to know they posted. The same is true of someone trying to hide their identity, as if Alyssa tries to come back as XYZ. Not sure if admin would check if someone was to "warn" them of that? It is not illegal, but maybe against the rule? I think I saw something like that somewhere... in the guidelines maybe?

why go to all that trouble? Maybe they just wanted the people to know w/o causing issues for the people they work with. Who cares if anyone calls out that crazy chick. It isn’t like she has a lot of people backing her crazy ass. creditable people anyway. I say kudos to someone for making sure everyone is aware of who they are getting involved with. It is a shame that her partner in crime doesn’t cut ties with her.

I seriously doubt that the admns at DST cares enough to do that. Not to mention that isnt too reliable. A lot of people post from work where there are communal computers. ;)

Anonymous said...

Maybe, but if a person has only 3 or 5 posts, it narrows it down. And although some people have a dynamic IP address, others don't so if personA has only one IP address registered, and creates another account, then it might be easy enough to cross-reference!

And did you ever try to ask the admin or do you just assume they would not do anything? Who knows?

Anonymous said...

I am the one that posted as 'jilly' at DST and the threads were deleted. I did get a nice PM from DST admin that while they appreciate what I was trying to do that maybe I could have worded it differently. They weren't mean about it they were just following their guidelines.

Lots of comments about maybe the newbies not knowing who the store owner really is...

Wouldn't any new designer see the owner's *real-life* name when they sign a contract with a new store?

Would anybody actually sell their designs at an online digi store only knowing the owner's screen name, & not their real name?

How can you have a legal business contract with a store if owners/designers don't use their real name? Has this really happened anywhere?

Here's the post:

How to sell products without a store
I am looking to sell my products without a store..... any ideas? When I first started this I was just using paypal, but that requires me to have time to email the buyers with their download links. Then, I started using another service (can't remember what they're called) that was an immediate download, but they charged me a monthly fee. I can't do that. I'm only selling about $50-$60 per month and I have a lot of kits (although, I won't put them all up for sale. I don't want to be tied down to a monthly fee.)

Any ideas? I don't want to have to meet monthly store requirements; this is the problem. Since I'm now working and going to school full-time I don't have much time to design. I want to keep selling my products and when and if I have time to create, then I will.

*********************

Most of all their original designers and ct members have left. Along with many that were added after that. I have also heard bad things about sales there.

Anonymous said...

Bummer! I was seriously considering applying to the PDP call. I've been a customer/fan since shortly after they opened. :\

Anonymous said...

I sold there, once upon a time. And yes, the sales are absolutely terrible. My sales in my own personal store are 10 times more than the sales I had at PDP. That's not exactly what you expect from a multi-designer store.

I don't really know what the missing link is there. I can say that I think their "newsletter" is a bit of a joke. The management seems scattered and unorganized. And I don't know if they know anything about search engine rankings and such. But, marketing seems to be seriously lacking and the sales reflect that.

I would caution against applying unless you are the kind of person who thinks they can hold the owners' hands and help them make it a better place. I couldn't spend the time to do that, so I moved on.

Anonymous said...

Wow, just took a look. I think they have 3 or 4 designers and the Artisan Notebook.

I used to sell at PDP and loved it there because of the people -- the owners are amazing! I left because I couldn't handle more than one store and went with the one that got me more money.

Exactly what I found when I sold there. I don't know what they're "missing" - great people and tons of "top-tier" designers have sold there at one time or other during their career. But yet the store is just meh.

Anonymous said...

Newsflash- it's because there are TOO MANY STORES!

Anonymous said...

Or it's because those top tier designers were already selling elsewhere with a good following, so why would they need to leave to go to a different store?

A store has to have their own customer base (preferably a strong one) or they have to offer something people can't get elsewhere

Anonymous said...

on another topic - while I completely agree that there is alot of piracy in the digi world and I whole-heartedly agree when designers get frustrated by it, something that gets me is when digital designs use items from the paper world and pass them off as their own creations.

I found one that really disappointed me today, since I regularly buy from this desginer. I had purchased a pack of gorgeous papers last halloween at Michaels - the designer is Tim Coffey of K&Company. Well low and behold, I find Pink Lotty has used one of the papers and is selling it in a card pack (for CU use no less!) available in her store. It's not a case of a paper designer and a digi designer using the same CU or something, the paper designer draws his own designs. Take a look at the examples and tell me if you agree it's the same.

Paper -

Digi -
http://www.deviantscrap.com/shop/product.php?productid=19213&cat=0&page=1

Paper in question is the 2nd from the bottom right (skulls).

Anonymous said...

So what are you going to do about it?

Anonymous said...

Yes, they are identical.
Pink Lotty didn't even bother to recolor it. Just another grungy layer over it and that's that.

So, yeah, what are you gonna do about it?

Anonymous said...

It's already been reported to K&Company, up to them to do something.

Anonymous said...

someone should probably let the store know too, they should know this about their designer

Here's for those who missed it: the original preview comparing to the paper product

http://i.imgur.com/WiRCR.jpg

Anonymous said...

What pisses me off about that is that the product is changed and there will clearly be NO repercussions against the designer.

Anonymous said...

I'm the original poster of the Pink Lotty issue. Although Deviantscrap took it down quite fast, I have still lost all respect for the designer.

In what world is it ok to steal someone else's design and call it your own? How would she feel if someone did this to her? And I have to be honest, a store keeping this designer on after something so blatant and deliberate, makes me think less of the store as well.

October 6, 2011 2:09 PM

----------

how is that "beyond stupid"? It's not up to me to notify anyone. Although since I felt the original artist was the one infringed upon, that I would notify them since they are the party that was wronged.

did I dumb it down enough for you?

Anonymous said...

I think it was smart to handle it the way you did. Who's to say what arrangement the designer had with the original artist? *If* there was an arrangement, it is between the two of them. It is not (y)our job to tattletale to the store. (Although by the quick fix on the preview I think we can discount any kind of private arrangement, but still, one doesn't know by looking at a preview.)

I have several arrangements with designers of all kinds to use their things as-is in my kits. It's listed in my TOUs for each kit, but it's not on my previews. Luckily you eagle eyes haven't seen them, but I would be horrified if you went to my store owner (or here on this blog) and said I was a thief (which I am not)

I find that Sherrie's stuff is useable for every day things too, not just altered.

from looking at blogs it appears we are now seeing who got in over at FPD. Tracy Martin and Brenda Neuberger already opened and OceanWide Designs and Farynar's Wings just announced they are opening there too.

Anonymous said...

Who are Tracy and Brenda?

Anonymous said...

Someone mentioned Little Dreamer Designs - Don't even bother. Michelle Coleman can't make up her mind to stay or go. She had a new baby so doesn't design nearly enough anymore, hence the closing of the original store. Seems there are 2 designers now, Michelle and her 11 year old daughter (I think she's 11). The "dream-team" is a little deceiving. I believe the rest of the so-called "dream team" are old CT members and don't design. I did buy one kit from Michelle's daughter's kits (Brenna) once and while it wasn't terrible it was just all her moms work - same overlays and same elements and stuff recolored..pretty basic. She's not very talented to be honest. So I think what your buying into is just one designers work. I'm disappointed because I loved that store but this is a fail and don't think it's worth it at all.

Anonymous said...

It's quite clear that there is only one designer at the store and that it's Michelle. I didn't even know her daugther was selling, I just thought she was part of the CT.

I also wondered if her daughter was designing. I know she was designing at the end there when the original store was closing. I also think this is a fail. The entire idea of paying a monthly fee is just, well, I don't know. I mean why not just open the store as it was before. I just don't see the point of the monthly fee and the idea behind it. I didn't think her daughter was too talented either but I guess its a good opportunity for her since shes just a kid. Just my own opinion though.

These last 2 from Bella Gypsy have only been marginally bright/ugly, but not even bad. Makes me think the person posting is just trying to get us to look at their kits.

p.s. I seriously doubt this has anything AT ALL to do with Gotta Pixel, though. It's entirely possible that many people don't even know Bella Gypsy (or anyone, for that matter) sells at ACOT. Most people don't even know ACOT exists in the digi world.

She's great at her style. That's not an issue. But she just loves to dig at people who use anything they didn't make themselves and designers in general.

Agreed. Stef is one of the world's biggest idiots. It makes no sense at all that she spends so much time stalking the boards at DST, given that she seems to have nothing but contempt for everything that site is focused on. I wonder if/when she is ever going to figure it out, and move on?

You're pointing out "that it is a spider", but I think the rest of us are questioning that. It looks nothing like a spider. Personally, I don't think it's a spider. Either way, the other point to be discussed is this: why did she even think that putting any of those items on cupcakes made any sense, anyway? So weird.

Anonymous said...

I have often wondered why Stef hangs out at a digital scrapbook forum. My theory is that she got turned down as a CT multiple times because her style is not scrapbooking but rather graphic design. She would be better received at deviantart or something like that. I can't stand the way she is always so condescending towards CTMs, designers, and scrappers in general that actually use products instead of just getting creative with our programs. It's not that we canNOT use our programs it is that we are creating scrapbooks and not just magazine style pages. I could go on for hours at how she gets my goat.

I'm the OP of the jellyfish comment...glad I'm not the only one confused! I don't understand the cupcake idea at all, flowers, ribbons, leaves, butterflies, cupcakes. You've never seen her make comments about how wrong it is to buy products and focus on shopping and not just making pages? Then you've never been around during the week leading up to a DSD or NSD. Stick around. Pay attention. You'll see. She's the FIRST one to pop into the forum when people start posting "where will the great sales be?" questions... to let people know that the weekend should be about celebrating scrapbooking, and not buying products.

The fact that you don't know this makes it obvious that you don't read the boards, and/or you're a newbie... either way, shut up if you don't have information to base your opinion on. This one's so cut and dry it's not even arguable.

I'm as entitled to my opinion as you are to yours. Do not tell me to shut up.

I happen to agree with her, DSD and NDS should be about scrapping, not just the buying.

I'm the OP of the jellyfish comment...glad I'm not the only one confused! I don't understand the cupcake idea at all, flowers, ribbons, leaves, butterflies, cupcakes.

But yet you understand the butterflies in a Halloween kit? That entire kit is a complete mess.

It is my personal opinion that Stef hangs out at DST to get praised. I am quite sure that is why she has her weekly scrap discussion thread, and her sycophants never fail to gush over her. I also think that's why she criticizes kits and shopping, to draw attention to herself. As a designer I have found so many of her comments condescending and sometimes just insulting, but a scrapper's perspective might be a bit different as she wants their admiration.

I'm a designer and she doesn't bother me in the least. But I don't let every little thing bother me.

Yeah, because right now you aren't being condescending and critical to draw attention to yourself.

Don't make me laugh.

I'm glad that there are different ways to scrap digitally. I've always printed my pages & have tons of 12x12 albums from my paper scrapping & digital days.
Now I'm wondering if I want to forgo the printed albums and start making slideshow dvds out of my photos.
Just a few short years ago there was a debate going on as to whether we were really scrapping. (paper vs digi)

Only the Yanks think orange and black and purple and lime green are colors that go together. With all the Halloween kits out, the smart money is focused on getting American Thanksgiving product in the market this week. ROTFLMAO!

What - no Guy Fawkes or Boxing Day kits out there that strike your fancy? How about a nice "Queen's Birthday" kit? Maybe we can whip one up for you .....

Boxing Day is shared by the lot of you (assuming you is either Canadian, British or Aussie), yet I've never seen any kits for those? Mmmmm why is that? I'm sure there must be a few?

You know if I did run across one, I hope I'd have better manners than to try to dismiss those that scrapped their photos with it and the country they're from as laughable.

Can't wait for the Thanksgiving kits to come out. My family gets together that day and we have a great time together. I'll snap lots of pictures .... so ....bring on the KITS!!!

What's wrong with last year's kits? Not being snarky, I just don't see why some people buy a new seasonal kit every year. Maybe every two years I understand, styles change etc, but every year?

Maybe not everyone bought a kit last year. Maybe those who will purchase a kit this year bought their last one 2 years ago. Or maybe they started digiscrapping only this year. It is not because you see seasonal stuff every year that all the customers are buying some every year. I don't buy Christmas lights every year, yet, they are in the stores every year.

What is that thing to the left of the cat? A ghost sperm?

ROFL I noticed that After 5's Designers are called Mixologists. Isn't that the name that Bartenders go by these days??

Anonymous said...

Um yes. Where have you been? The whole concept behind A5 is about drinking. (get it? After Five? As in hitting the bar after work, having a good time?)

Yes and President's Day should be about former Presidents and not about a Mattress sale but it's still there and people still flock to buy... Same with every other holiday sale. Get over it.

Obviously another case of someone trying to enable a kit. The kit isn't hideous. I don't even see the "sperm" you're getting at. It's not my style at all, but I don't think the kit is bad for what it is.

Again, take your enabling to DST!

I see the sperm ghost. Looks hideous.

I see the ghost sperm. I don't think it should've been in the kit, but I don't think the whole kit is hideous.

I guess the same could be said about last year's costumes, or last year's Christmas presents. They still work, just rewrap em right? Some people just like to have new stuff. Just because you're cheap doesn't mean that everyone else is or wants to be.

Speaking as a Canadian, we are just as much into Halloween as the "Yanks" are, I absolutely love orange, black, purple and green together. LOL So not sure why you'd assume the OP might be Canadian.

and judging by the way the OP spelled "color" I would not assume she is British either as we all spell it "colour". So look to a different nationality, thanks! :)

I totally agree that it's a complete mess. I don't understand butterflies for a Halloween kit either, but if you lose those cupcakes, it's just a really ugly fall kit. I don't know, I wouldn't buy it either way.

Depending on how large the Halloween kit I bought last year was, I probably wouldn't buy a new one every year. But, I do print out my pages into albums and I want them to look different each year, so I shop for a new kit if I couldn't get two very different looking pages from the same kit.
