Fresh Space

Too busy to keep up with the digi scene.
Out turning tricks to make sure I have 20 bucks for each of my 5 kids so I can go to Walmart later and shop the after Christmas sales when the picked over crap is on sale so my kids can have the best Christmas ever. Thanks to my loyal customers, you are the best!

Our blog hostess has an iphone. Wonder if she shopped at Walmart for her kids too...For Christmas this year, I got myself an iphone and my kids got $5 toys from Walmart. I love making Christmas magic!

Royanna, is that you?

Anonymous said...

I kind of think that if Royanna *did* own the blog that there would be more posts defending her assinine scams, and/or that the most vitriolic posts about her might mysertiously get removed, don't you?

I think our hostess has a great sense of humour though, made me snort.

OMG, I thought I was the only one who thought that! She has a holier than thou attitude that turns me off.

I'm really not sure how designing at SSD is going to give her more time with her kids than writing a few paragraphs every day.

Anonymous said...

I wonder what patch of bad luck will befall Royanna this month? Seems like she makes a ton of money off these.

Speaking of money, is anyone really making any designing scrapbooks lately? Not a designer here, just wondering. Lots of freebies on the net and the economy is still pretty bad - plus there seems to be 10,000 designers and 5 scrappers. Just an observation.

Anonymous said...

She only made $100 off of that sale?

Her iPhone is worth 3x + that.

Anonymous said...

At this point in Royanna's swindling career, it's just as much her 'victims'' fault that she gets away with her scams.

Anyone who sends her money/buys from Divine Digital is beyond stupid. Royanna might as well be standing on the rooftop shouting "I'm a fraud and a crook!" But in scrapping, there's always an endless supply of chumps.

Anonymous said...

Royanna's Facebook photo is kind of creepy! Maybe because it's not overly processed retouched, and- REAL!

All you rude people here are the same people who post (fake) sweet comments on galleries, like "I love the journaling!" etc, and maybe the same people who "send wishes and prayers" Royanna's way?

I'm sure you are part of that group of people who deny ever reading this blog and yet always seem to know what's being discussed. Odd, that.

I don't post comments in the galleries, it's not worth my time.

Agreed on both counts. :)

I bought from Royanna once, won't make that mistake again. Her "high quality" stuff looks great as thumbnails, looks like s**t when it's at 100%.

Clue me in peeps...why don't you like Sweet Shoppe Designs??

Anonymous said...

I don't have a problem with Janet. I wish her success in her new venture but I won't be following her to SSD. I liked her at Scrapbook Graphics but I didn't follow her when she left and I won't follow her to SSD either. It's been a long time since a designer was so great that I left a site to follow them. It seems as one good designer leaves, another good one comes along.

Anonymous said...

Clue me in peeps...why don't you like Sweet Shoppe Designs??

--------------

I've actually wondered the same thing several times. Not just about SSD, but about a lot of the shops people complain about here. There are several stores that just don't sell my style of scraps and I don't shop there. But I have nothing against them, just not my taste. Maybe I'm just out of the loop but I don't understand where the dislike for a whole store comes from.

Anonymous said...

Cause they aren't happy if they don't have anything to complain about.

Anonymous said...

You know, from the sound of it, you would think a customer had to haul themselves around town in a car, through miles of snow and nasty traffic to find a designer at their new home. This is the internet for crying out loud. You just have to use your fingers...lol

How small minded and limiting a life to ONLY shop at one fricken store?? I bet you only wear white cotton panties and wouldn't dare serve fish on a Tuesday either.

Get over yourself. If your fingers are incapable of typing in a new web address into a browser to check out the new designs from a designer you "supposedly" really liked, then I say good riddance to you. Stay in your little box and drool over your coins like a creature from The Lord of the Rings.

DAM -- WTF? Is it really THAT hard to put out a freakin' digital magazine on time? Someone needs to be fired/replaced/whatever.

There's already another "what's going on with DAM" post. They should make it into a sticky for easier reference.

Anonymous said...

Why don't people have some consideration for digi store owners who also have families to spend time with at xmas? Those DAM readers need to learn some patience and manners.

Anonymous said...

Clue me in peeps...why don't you like Sweet Shoppe Designs??

--------------

I know that people are tired of hearing it, but I personally think the SSD bashers are disgruntled designers who are jealous and/or envious of the designers who do sell there. SSD is one of the best/most popular digi shops on the internet, and if a designer is lucky enough to sell there... then kudos to them. I personally hold no ill will toward any of them. Quite honestly, I would love to sell there, but I know that it is all but impossible to get on as a designer there. I am not petty enough to bash them because I want to sell there and don't. Or have applied and been turned down. Shit happens, get over it.

SSD has a great quality product if their style meshes with your tastes, and if the stuff they sell doesn't appeal to you there are 506,238 other digi stores to shop at.

I have heard over and over again on the smack blogs about all of the drama at SSD. Well, I visit the forums pretty regularly and I have never seen any significant drama at all. I don't post very often, but I do lurk and read through the posts. To those of you who keep babbling about all of the drama, PLEASE link us up to what the heck you are talking about. I would love to read it.

Anonymous said...

The alleged drama is supposedly behind the scenes so unless you are a designer there and willing to spill there is no way of substantiating any of it really. Besides, if you like what's on offer at a store, why would you give too hoots what does on behind closed doors?

Anonymous said...

Why don't people have some consideration for digi store owners who also have families to spend time with at xmas? Those DAM readers need to learn some patience and manners.

Perhaps if it was just this month. It's not. It's every other month as well. It's called planning ahead. Just like a newspaper has an earlier deadline during the Holiday season, so should a Digital Magazine that wants to have a professional reputation. If its just going to be a hobby, then say so. But DAM wants to be professional, and is missing the mark.

Anonymous said...

I'll tell you why it's a pain to follow the designers around.
-They pull their product off the shelves randomly often without notice before the move.
-It means another store newsletter and blog to subscribe to.
-Delete the other store/blog
-A period of limbo due to the previous store's restrictions. Means: NO SHOPPING!

Anonymous said...

Isn't DAM a paid subscription? If so, then no, as a paying customer I do not need to have any patience at all. You take the money, promise release dates - now grow up and act like a professional. This is just another sad example of how far too many view this industry as just a hobby - not a serious business operation.

If you don't charge, then I assume you have advertisers paying your costs. They should begin to take a hard look at you and put their dollars where the customer is treated with a higher level of respect.

Anonymous said...

DAM is a freakin' expensive one too...

---------------------------------
For me it is just a question of time. When there were a handful of designers and a handful of stores, I could keep tabs on everyone. Now there are too many for me to keep track of. I find that I spend less time at the computer than I used to, so I want the time I do spend to be as productive as possible.

Anonymous said...

DAM isn't a subscription, you buy each issue. And all the past issues are still available. That said, they are VERY IRRESPONSIBLE and NEVER NEVER NEVER have their issues out on time, if at all. Even if it's "just digital" the lack of professionalism makes you wonder and makes me go elsewhere for inspiration. Chalk it up to another good idea mismanaged to the point of no return.

Anonymous said...

Those girls behind DAM should just give up, when it was a monthly publication they couldn't make their deadline, so they move to bimonthly and they still can't get it out on time. They are obviously incompetent! If they wished to enjoy time at Christmas that issue should have been released before Christmas. I am surprised anyone would still want to be associated with it. By the way to the poster before there is also a subscription option.

Anonymous said...

Not a designer but my opinion is that she needs to sell it to someone who has the time to run it. It used to be a fun site but you can blame it all on the owner if the designers don't participate at the site to make it fun for customers and site members. I have to say that I don't like the newest addition of designers. More of the same style that everyone else is doing and has done 1000 times.

Anonymous said...

you 'can't' blame it all on the owner. sorry.

Anonymous said...

How about this for a topic? If you are on a CT does it bug you if the designer never comments on your work? That might lead you to believe they don't like it, but they saw it before they hired you right? I am on a site CT and less than half the designers ever comment on anything the CT does there. Same on some individual CTs that I am on. I realize I am getting free product for my work, but you can still comment and say "Thanks for using my kit or something"

Anonymous said...

I don't leave comments for my CT. It's not because I don't like their layouts, it's simply a matter of time. Ten CTs producing two layouts each per kit and posting both layouts to three galleries would mean 60 comments I have to leave. I just don't have time, and if I miss one that person will get upset and take it personally, so I just don't leave ANY comments. In my CT forum I thank the girls frequently (in general terms), and if a CT sends me a copy of the layout by email I will respond with an 'ooh aah' and a thanks, I just don't leave individual comments in galleries.

Hopefully they understand, I think they do.

Anonymous said...

You don't have to require two layouts per kit. ;) I'm glad my designers don't. I often use kits more than once, but its as I have pictures that fit the kit, rather than forcing multiple layouts within a week or two.

I also don't think anyone expects a designer to comment in every gallery. My designers usually comment in their store gallery and that's it. Of course, they keep their teams small and manageable, so that helps.

Anonymous said...

okay, I love comments, but I'm a big girl now and I will point blank ask a designer hey, you likin' my layouts? I need a nod now and again that I'm rockin' your kits!
Communication is the main key.

Anonymous said...

From a non CT and designer point of view, I think it's odd that I don't see a designer comment on a CT layout.

I used to be a designer and I made a point of commenting on the layouts my CTs made. I didn't do it at every gallery they posted to, but I did comment on every page in one of their galleries.

Anonymous said...

you 'can't' blame it all on the owner. sorry.

January 1, 2010 10:33 AM

-----------------------------------

You can blame it on the owner when her own laziness and continued "passing the buck" to everyone else to do everything results in fed up designers who put their foot down and refuse to take on all the load. The owner's apathy spreads bad feelings and people soon don't have the desire to continue on when the owner herself won't do anything.

Anonymous said...

okay, not a designer, but I have the workload of a designer now..please add to list.

1. make a kit that is all original and completely different but with some of the new things so I don't have to get them elsewhere.

2. Give away add-ons, clusters, brags and quickpages

3. advertise everywhere but don't be bothersome in that

4. leave a comment on all layouts done with your kit

5. be active in the forum you are in and any you might want to sell in eventually and give things away

6. have sales all the time

7. Stay in the same store unless someone doesn't like either CTs at this store or the owner, then go somewhere else, but don't move to quickly or we get mad, and if we don't like the store we will slam you for taking your time getting out of that store

8. No drama, unless you share it here.

9. You can't be really rich, cute or skinny. No fat, ugly or poor designers either.

10. You are here for us all the time! If our puters crash, you must replace everything, and sales ending don't apply to us, if we email mad, you must give us the sale price.

I'm not a designer, which is good because some would NEVER buy from me anyway, and anonymously taunt me to say who I am!
please add anymore??

Anonymous said...

I have found that if the designer owns their own store (and it's an exclusive store) that they post all layouts posted in their site gallery.

Anonymous said...

7.07, the successful designers don't bother with this blog and manage to get on with it anyway. What does that say?

It goes to show that what a bunch of people who have nothing better to do with their time than post on this blog don't matter. If they can't be bothered to say it to the designer, then it simply doesn't exist.

I know I post here, but I don't have anything better to do. Not yet, anyway. Besides, I take my grievances to the designer.

Anonymous said...

You don't have to comment in every gallery they post to, just comment on that layout in one of the galleries. In the working world, if you are churning out some type of product and your boss never ever comments on it,how long will you want to stay at that job. Seems a little snobbish not to comment when people are just trying to sell kits for you.

Anonymous said...

my designers have commented in the ct forum where I post my layout first and I'm more than fine with that. I CT but my layouts are personal and I get them printed.
Matter of fact with one layout the designer noticed something I totally missed, made a suggestion I was grateful for. I tried what she suggested and loved the layout even more.

I've told my CT many that I apologize for not commenting on every layout they produce, but constantly tell them that they are appreciated, that I love their work, etc. etc. Honestly, for me it is a matter of time. Trying to make sure I'm thanking customers in galleries or in email does take up a lot of the free time I have. My girls know that I love them, even if I don't comment on everything they ever produce.

The thing I hate most about a lot of kits that are floating around these days is that they have junk in them that doesn't even go with the kit. I saw a really nice nature kit a while back and then the designer had to go and put some doodles in it, that didn't work with the kit at all. I don't mind doodles, but they need to go with the kit. Another time, I saw a really nice doodle type kit and it had very realistic elements in it. Again, it just didn't work together. I'm seeing way to much of this kind of crap in kits and that's what annoys me.

What kind of argument is a designer can't please everyone? Yes, they can if they do different things instead of churning out the same old tired garbage kit after kit after kit.

I mix things up all the time but it goes together. The crap I see doesn't even work together, that's my argument. With the cost of a half decent kit these days, I don't want to delete and I shouldn't have to. I simply don't buy from that designer. Their loss, not mine.

There are designers out there who can mix it up and do it right, but they are few and far between. Most designers have no clue at all about the simple basics of design like color, co-ordination, style. Buying some CU, extracting some items and throwing them together and calling them a kit is not designing.

Exactly! But that's because most of the designers were once scrappers who know their way around photoshop and now think they're artists. And granted, some are pretty artistic, they make they're own images and their kits are unique. But too many have just jumped on the band wagon, buying a ton of CU products to recolor. You know, anyone can do that-honestly.

I call the stuff that doesn't go, "filler crap."
If it's a doodle pack, keep it a doodle pack. Don't charge us extra for something that doesn't stay within the kit's theme just to make it look more substantial. Don't penalize your customers for losing your mojo, or because you don't have the chops to make something else.

Anonymous said...

So designers that doodle should only add doodled elements and realistic designers should stick to only realistic elements? Because that's how you like your kits right?

I for one hope that all designers don't start doing that. I like a mix of stuff in the kits I buy. And I'm not buying from designers who just throw a bunch of CU in there. It's their own stuff.

I love the doodled look, but call me crazy for wanting a real ribbon in there or a pretty silk flower or button or a stitched felt piece or something. To me, all doodled can look flat. I like a mix of stuff to choose from.

Sorry 12:27. Just my opinion. And really, designers CAN'T please everyone. They can only do their best. Doesn't sound like anyone can please you though.

No I don't want a silky flower in a toy dump truck kit. But that is more of a theme compatability issue, not a style issue. I would want real ribbons and buttons and other type of extracted items in a doodled truck kit though. KWIM?

Oh please. Those number strips have been around long before either of those two products.

It's all been done before. Just because you saw it first at (godawful) House of 3 does not mean that was Heidi Swapp's original idea. Those paper designers are some of the worst about ripping off other people's ideas. Digital designers run a close second.

Grow up and leave the whole copycat thing back in your childhood.

I don't care who put it out first, but the fact that they both got released back to back bears mention. Kind of make a relevant point to the question asked.

Have you just joined reality? VERY SIMILAR things are being released back to back all the damn time. Running around posting links to two products with similar numbers and asking who copied who is beyond immature and a very lame attempt at shit stirring.

Assholes like you are why this blog has died. Piss off.

I'll rephrase the question for anyone else who would like to reply.

"I'm seeing lots of products releasing with mis-shapen or mismatched numbers as the primary theme...

I would show examples, but apparently that causes panties to twist.

WHAT do you think the big trends of 2010 are going to be?"

Anonymous said...

I actually thought that the whole mishaphen number thing was done and gone already. Looks like it's back, maybe. I don't know what new trends are going to be in, something new would be nice.

Anonymous said...

Might I suggest you re-read your post, 7:15? You were not asking about the trends. You asked who "inspired" who (quotes are yours).

I'm not sure when Heidi put hers up, but her description talks about "this year." That leads me to believe that it was Jan 1 or later. Danielle had hers up on December 30. Not that it matters; when its its that close, its not likely one copied the other. Besides, the other posters are right, its not original to either Danielle or Heidi. Its been done before.

Will it be a trend? Maybe.

Did she bother to answer at all? If not you could always ask in DST Scraptalk. Usually Designers don't like their poor Quality published in a scrappers forum. If her quality is crap then she'll be losing customers unless the customers are like all those who post their favorites and they are the same designers over and over and over again. I guess I'd rather have good quality and keep my customers then be someone's favorite because it's all about popularity rather then quality.

And no my panties aren't in a wad but posting here in a smak blog isn't going to do anything either because others could care less what your opinions are just like they do about mine.

I didn't make the original complaint. What have I said about assuming? Why do so many of you who post here assume all the time?

A long time ago, I had a gift certificate to Maya's store and I was not impressed with the quality of the goods. I did mention it to her and she did reply, but not in a way satisfactory to me.

I never posted at DST about it or other products that have been bad and the designers unsatisfactory and I never will. Some people can't tell the difference between quality, trendy and crap and it's not my place to enlighten them.

Anonymous said...

I guess one gal's junk is another's treasure, because I bought the kit and was very happy with the quality and with the purchase price (was on sale when I picked it up). To each her own I guess.

Why is it always up to the customers to notify the designers that their stuff is crappy? *sigh* new year, same old shit.

I've never understood that either. Why can't the designer double check and then get her CT to check it as well. I also think all stores should have a quality controller or three.

Anonymous said...

Telling her to start a thread about the quality of a product @ DST is horrible advice. People will eat her alive and whine, "You should have contacted her in private... blah blah blah." And don't forget her CT!

Anyone know what the deal is with Joyce Paul????? I hate to say it but her shit is all starting to look the same and now she is opening a new store with some shitty designers!!! Bren Boone...damn, that woman disappears at least twice a year and Tracy Blankenship...what a has been! Then, there are rumors of other designers joining that are way under par. The store is called mscraps short for memory scraps. I wouldn't scrap my memories from that crap!!! Love her cheerleading CT team as well...I mean here we go with more of the same Layouts over and over! *yawn* Boring! Joyce is a flip flopper...how many stores has she been in just in the past year? Like 50! I mean come on...and you think people like that. That would be a no! I give Bren a month or so there and Tracy will flake out again as well. Funny how Joyce is picking up everyone else's used designers that are so old and tired and thinking she is going to have a gold mine. Good luck with that one.

Besides, I doubt she is going to get any really great designers just look at her line up so far!!

Anonymous said...

Wow, well I am not really up on the whole Joyce thing, but after hearing she has a new store I took a look. Its ok...nothing great that is for sure and no offense but Bren Boone is one tired designer...get some new stuff. Yuck! Decided to peek at her CT...I see that she has most of the ones that get gallery standouts...she wants attention. So with that said she is just another attention whore. What's new? I don't have any of Joyce's designs either and I wouldn't waste my money on them. I have heard that she talks about the quality of other designers work, but nothing is special about hers. And the ones joining her store are nothing to write home about either!

Hopefully they understand, I think they do.

as a CT member, I would rather it be this way than have them just leave praise for the ones they like. I was on a team where the designer did this, and it was mostly over one gals layouts. It was very obvious to the rest of us. I left pretty quickly! As for my other teams, the designers leave praise when they can, but I'm totally fine if they don't leave any at all. They asked me to join their teams so I know they like my work.

I used to like Janet Phillips but all of her flitting around is irritating. Especially after the whole leaving TheDailyDigi for time with her family and then being a regular poster there and now at SSD.

I would have a lot more respect for her if she said, "I get bored easily and like to change things up often."

I don't know why but I am especially irritated because I bought a bunch of her stuff at her last sale because she marketed it like she would never be back again...only to be selling her templates at TDD a few weeks later and now at SSD. That bothers me.

Won't be buying anything from her again...not to mention she is is way out done by so many of the newer template designers. Pay attention folks, Janet is putting squares on a 12x12 layout. She rarely does element guides or anything interesting. You don't need a template to do that.

December 25, 2009 11:51 PM
---------------------------

First of all, I have always liked Janet's templates. They are not always the trendiest, but I still like them.

She was with SBG for a long time. I'm guessing it was a couple of years and then starting a blog like she did and have it be as popular as it has become was not just flitting around and jumping from store to store.

and for those of you who think running a blog like that isn't a lot of work, you are freaking crazy! There is SO much that goes into what she was doing, and just designing at SSD right now has got to be a huge weight off of her shoulders and I'm sure she has so much more time with her family now. I can't even imagine doing what they are doing over at TDD.

Since Janet doesn't have a CT (that I know of), you know I'm not just some CT member coming to cheerlead for her, and I don't even know her personally (have never had any contacts with her ever), but I am a fan. I have many travel books and other pages where I need a lot of multiple photo templates to help me get my books done. I will be using Janets. They are just the thing I need, and she'll have my business!

I'm not a huge SSD fan in general since it's not really my style, but there are some really good designers there and they are making designs for their customers and what their needs are. I think Janet is the perfect mix for the store. I will still use other template designers though (I love Cindy, Fizzy Pop, Rubia, etc...)but I will always be purchasing some from Janet too!

Its no different than designers sending a form e-mail to ct-prospects. Are you bothered by that too? Sometimes its just easier to use form messages. I just followed your link and I agree - it looks like a pretty neat kit. But I'm not familiar with the genre of steampunk - so I looked it up on Wiki - and HOLY SHIT! she copied the Wiki article almost word for word - that's plagiarism.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steampunk

Not cool Maya - not cool.

Maya - Jumpin' Jules Verne it's a digital scrapbooking STEAMPUNK collection! Flying machines, time travel and extraordinary voyages often set in and brewing from the imaginations of the Victorian age. Steampunk is a sub-genre of fantasy and speculative fiction that came into prominence in the 1980s and early 1990s often focusing on technology either entirely fictional and sometimes on inventions that evenually occurred at a later date, like for instance the computer. Steampunk has since become a style, a sub-culture and an art-form.

Wiki -Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction and speculative fiction, frequently featuring elements of fantasy, that came into prominence in the 1980s and early 1990s. The term denotes works set in an era or world where steam power is still widely used—usually the 19th century, and often Victorian era England—but with prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy, such as fictional technological inventions like those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne, or real technological developments like the computer occurring at an earlier date. Other examples of steampunk contain alternate history-style presentations of "the path not taken" of such technology as dirigibles, analog computers, or digital mechanical computers (such as Charles Babbage's Analytical engine); these frequently are presented in an idealized light, or with a presumption of functionality.

That's a false argument. I've known plenty of CTs who can manage to make anything look fabulous, even when the kit is a piece of crap. This is why I don't go by CT layouts, they can and often do lie about the kit. Beautiful layouts are a credit to the person who made it, not the designer.

Besides, the layouts aren't that wow.

I'm not sure about the copyright issues for quotes, if the quote is in the public domain it's usually OK - but what Maya did was not the same anyway. She didn't use a quote, she used someone else's printed work. Whether the printed work is in a book or on-line, the person who wrote it still has a copyright to that work. Honestly -that's the way it works.

Even if it's just a sentence - it's the law. It doesn't even have to be word for word, there can be a "substantial similarity".

Here's a defination for you:

Since evidence of direct copying or Plagiarism of an authored work is difficult to obtain, infringement of copyright is usually established through Circumstantial Evidence. Such evidence typically must show a substantial similarity between the original and the copy, as well as prove that the copier had access to the original. This means that where two works are similar or identical, there is nevertheless no infringement if each work was produced through the original and independent work of its creator. An infringer is not relieved of liability by crediting the source or the creator of the infringed work. Although infringement does not require that
even a large portion of the work be similar, it does require that a substantial part be similar. It is irrelevant if the copied work is an improvement of the original work.

-Ive been reading and it sounds like someone is really pissed off and maybe a little hurt they either didnt get added to the team or maybe taken on as a designer.
-People do talk and maybe they found out one of their friends was added to the team after they were told it was full and there were either no design spots left or CT spots left. It happens all the time. They probally felt lied to and came here to vent alittle.
Nothing wrong with that. I highly doubt it will affect sales at the store.

I don't understand why people go ape shit over Joyce Paul. I bought one of her kits while she was at CatScrap because she was brought up a ton in a thread at DST but I won't buy from her again. Not because of bad quality or anything she just uses A TON of CU and all her papers use the same texture and she will do like 3 patterns and just recolor them a few times.

As for Bren Boone, I give her 2-3 months and then she will have some big ol' tradgedy and suddenly leave digi again. Let's see she has already done the divorce and I think she was sick too, so who knows what it will be this time.

Oh & Tracey is one of Bren's BFF's so I am sure that is why she is there.

nothing wrong with bringing friends along in my book! As for Bren Boone and her staying, who knows. I know it's been super hard to track her, but I certainly don't care if she leaves for awhile and then decides to come back. That's her business. She has cute stuff and if I see something new that I like, I'll buy from her wherever she is!

BFFs? Seriously? My 12 year old used that on me last week when telling me about her school day.

Joyce posted a call for designers then sent out a form email,"I must say that your designs are very pretty, but they’re not exactly what I’m looking for at the moment." It wasn't just this poor chic who posted in her thread that got that comment either - I know of someone else who received the EXACT same email. Funny - yet she came back later and updated her thread with a "last chance call".

-------------------------------
She did the same with her CT call! How original, huh? I also heard that Tracy was going to be opening a store there. Someone said it is posted on the forum. Not sure because that is not my kinda place to hang out!

Anonymous said...

I haven't seen anything about Tracy opening a store anywhere. You would think it would be at DST in a thread somewhere.
Maybe she is just there as a scrapper hanging out? Why is there a big problem if Tracy decided to design again?

Ok, so I am just coming in on all of this...boy, alot of catching up to do. As for the BFFs (lame term btw) they will have their same old tired followers. There stuff is pitiful. As for Joyce I have 2 kits from her and I loved them to begin with, but they get old and I agree her papers all just start to look the same and her wordart truly sucks. CT teams can make a kit that sucks look awesome, but in the end the kit still sucks, kwim? I am sure there are some ticked off peeps, but there always are big deal. It's not like her store is gonna be an SBG or A5D...she can only wish. But I am sure with all of the feedback negative/positive she will do fine. Does anyone really care? I mean is it life altering to them anyway?

Anonymous said...

Here is some honesty here...the digi scrappers are not as good as they used to be. I do have some faves that I buy from, but I have seriously been thinking about going back to paper scrapping.

Anonymous said...

I like Joyce's stuff. Very simple and classic. I am beyond sick to death of the fantasy crap, and most stores are over-full of it (A5D, SPD). I'm glad to see her store, and that Audrey Neal is back, too. It gives me a place or two besides OScraps to visit and shop.

Was she supposed to take on every "designer" that applied, no matter how crappy their work was? Even if their style didn't match what she wants in her store?

There are more sour grapes in digi than anywhere else.

There was just some poor planning on someone's part and that is why is kept coming back as a last chance call and all. Yes, her stuff is simple and classic, but you can only do so many boring LOs with them. Not to knock those that love their boring LOs and I can think of one person in particular who loves her LOs so much she thinks she should win an award. No offense to this person but your LOs are so blah and your kids are not as cute as YOU think they are. Might sound mean but just being truthful which seems to be something hard for some of you to do! The truth hurts so go cry about it somewhere else. Someone told me about this blog and so I came to check it out...what a bunch of whiny babies here. Boo hoo hoo! Fucking get over it and yourselves!

If you have a problem with what Joyce did or didn't do why not just email her and tell her how you feel?-
She is doing what other store owners do when they open a store. If you don't like what she stands for be happy you don't have to deal with it.

Now I have another question, which designers are total bitches? I would like to know so I can stay away from them LOL!

So you won't buy from a "bitchy" designer? Is that your standard with everything you buy--toothpaste, chicken, water heaters? I guess for me, as long as I like her stuff, I don't care if a designer is bitchy, particularly because some people are so damn sensitive, and think everything is bitchy. Joyce sent out a form rejection letter? At least she didn't say what she probably really thought--you have no talent and shouldn't expect to be on my team or anyone else's. Now that would have been rude. But I thought her letter was charitable, even if it she didn't provide an original, personal letter to each person. I hope all of you whiners hold yourselves to the same high standards you expect from everyone else.

Anonymous said...

Most designers dont send each person a seperate email. Most send out one and send it to everyone they reject. Why is it such a big deal if that is what Joyce did? Isn't that normal for a designer to do? I agree it would have been alot ruder to tell someone they have no talent than a non personal rejection letter. I would be thankful I got the non personal one.

I'll take simple and elegant any day over loud, garish, and overcluttered. Same goes for the fake as shit fantasy drivel.

Variety is a good thing. Everyone can shop with stores that suit their own style.

Anonymous said...

---------

Audrey is such a nice person and I love her word art, but her kits are not the best. It is nice to see her back but I hope she sticks to what she does well.

I think that only CU items make satisfactory sales nowadays... What do you think?

Anonymous said...

What is up with all the scrappers turning into designers?
A few have turned into lovely designers but some should have just stayed scrappers.

Anyone can design, especially with all the CU on the market. It's simply how you put it together. And some designers only buy CU that they don't have to give credit for, so it looks as though they made their own stuff (or extracted it) but if you buy enough kits you find the same items in a lot of them.

I think you really have no idea what you are talking about, do you? Are you a designer that isn't doing so well, and only your CU is selling? If that is the case, then it might be better to look at your designs and change something, or try something new. Trust me, for all of you who go on about not buying any more, that digi is dying, blah blah, there are 1000's more customers buying it up just fine!

Anonymous said...

Maybe she isn't a designer. Maybe she's just a customer who has noticed a ton of CU products available lately. No need to jump down her throat.

Hey dear! Can't you just discuss like a civilized person? Maybe you don't know what this word means!!! Well, stop assuming things! (This advice would also be helpful with your pesonal life, if you got any).
I am not a designer, I'm just a scrapper who barely buys anymore, because of all that CU stuff that seem to be used in hundreds of kits. To make it more clear for you to understand, I am not gonna buy a kit that is filled with CU items that once have been offered as a freebies. I am not gonna puy for something that the so called designer downloaded for free and just recoloured! I could do that too!
So my question is: what happened to the original stuff? Are all designers so bored to design, and they try to take our money for what is not worth it?

Anonymous said...

^^^^

There are still quite a few designers who do original stuff.

Hey love! You need to get out more, don't you? You definitely need to step out of your box around digi-land and have a good look around, there is plenty of original stuff out there, but you obviously don't venture far. Maybe you should put all that whiney energy to good use and actually use your CU freebies to scrap a page...then have a good look at it and ask yourself...now does that look better than a page I could have scrapped from a designers kit that uses some CU? Bet I know what the answer is! But hey, if you're happy with those standards, then more power to you!

Are you a designer? Tell us who you are, and we'll come and buy stuff from you!

It's pretty sad to see such an aggressiveness over here. And for no reason. Judging by the "Oh, we are such a happy family" LOs on the galleries, I could swear that the scrappers are the happiest persons in the world. Well, it seems they aren't... Prove me wrong!

Anonymous said...

7:46 is this the first time you've been here? No one here has any desire to prove you wrong. This isn't happy family time. It's a smack blog. People here just want to talk shit and since it's anon, people are pretty blunt and often cruel. It is what it is.

If you all are sick and tired of designers like Joyce Paul and Maya, I suggest you check out SSD. The designers there would never copy a sentence in their product description, and when you apply for a position (designer or CT), they always respond in a personal, yet professional manner. I hardly ever go anywhere else these days.

Anonymous said...

How do you girls like your spam? Flavored with a little bit of SSD??? Yummy.

That's easy. You are judging an entire community of thousands by the pitiful few who comment here.

Besides, just because we bitch, doesn't mean we aren't happy.

-------------------

Why is that whenever anyone mentions being tired of a few stores, someone comes here and throws up SSD, why?

I'm not really sure if you did it to stir the pot or what. It's hard to tell.

Anonymous said...

Do you have any idea how many times I've checked out SSD because of something someone has posted here? It's pretty obvious that mentioning SSD both stirs the pot and is effective advertising for them at the same time.

Anonymous said...

It is probably because SSD designers are behind much of the other designer bashing here.

Anonymous said...

I hadn't realized that. I always thought it was the DSP designers doing the bashing.

Anonymous said...

^^^^

why on earth would either the DSP or SSD designers do the bashing? It's probably some other store altogether.
