This was in reference to no one mentioning that they wouldn't shop with a certain designer because of the store they are in.

What about SBE? That store is hideous.

And by 49 colored they mean 49 recolored pieces of crap. Do people even use this?

Do not buy CU from Maria at DigiScrappers Brasil In addition to it being THE WORST quality, (blurry plus pixelated and strays - it's amazingly bad) she also sells things she got for free from places like Deviant Art with a TOU that is sort of iffy on reselling. (She thinks she can just resell as is, but I do not want to put it in my kits because I've seen the Original Artists' TOUs and it doesn't look to me as if any reselling is allowed.) Oh, and she acts like she doesn't understand English when you try to contact her.

In addition to Digiscrappers Brasil, she is now at 4 or 5 stores and I don't remember which ones they are. Plus there is more than one Maria, although the others all have another initial after their names.

I sell at SHCO. I'd wager that I'm not the only one there who feels this way.

______________

So, tell me, as a SHCO designer, don't you know what's been said here about Miss Tiina? Aren't you ashamed to sell in a store run by a pirate? Aren't you ashamed to bring customers who,ll support her by buying your work? Or as long as the money is good, you just don't care?

Anonymous said...

Yawn, the whole Miss Tiina thing is old and worn out just like you.

---------------------
Why should she care what Miss Tiina does? And BTW Miss Tiina isn't a fucking "pirate"... it's not like she continues to do piratey things, and it's not like she's kit-sharing, and it's not like anything new has happened w/ regard to her in the past year or two. She got caught in the past using IKEA fabric that she traced, and we will never, ever let her live it down here on this blog, will we? Yawn. If she were still doing things like that, I'd be more interested. But it wasn't repeat behavior that endured through time. And she is obviously spending her time drawing her sickeningly sweet vector animals and doing her own thing now. Let it die. Pretty sure the rest of us have.

Meanwhile, why should the designers who sell at Sugar Hill be ashamed of a mistake that the owner made in the past? It's not like they had anything to do with it. I hadn't been there in a while, but I just checked it out... there are some really talented, well-known designers selling CU there. Obviously they're not all idiots, and there's gotta be a reason they're selling there. Maybe it is money, but why do you care?

Jesus Christ, it's not like she's murdering puppies, or committing genocide, or running a child pornography ring. And the money she's making off commission surely isn't enough to do anything truly awful. You make it sound so sinister. Why should the other designers be "ashamed"? Way to blow things way. out. of. proportion. Sounds like you need to go to church and pray for everyone's souls...

I don't even like Laura and I have to disagree with this. It's a HUGE stretch. Leave the girl alone and let her do her thing. Believe me, if Rachael decides she needs to have a problem with it, I believe she will take it to the source. But I also don't think she has the time to pursue imaginary "similarities" either.

OMG, this industry is exhausting sometimes. People constantly trying to create drama where there is none. It's pathetic.

Anonymous said...

How is that copying when they released the kits at the same time?

CV doesn't do grunge all the time. In fact if you look at LB's store the majority of the releases on her first page are the doodled, grungy kind.

Someone here just must really have it out for her, because it seems like her name randomly comes up every couple months and it's always someone trying to instigate something about her.

Well, this is a shame, if it's true. I have a couple personal use items she has done and they are super cute.

Do you have any proof to back this up? I hate it that people slander others here with nothing to back it up. Especially as concerns issues of stealing from other artists like this. It should not be done without showing support for your claim.

I shop at SHCO for the quality and variety. also - they have fantastic customer service...and a generous points system. I am never disappointed with a purchase from SHCO. Ms. Tiina got caught doing something she shouldn't have. YEARS ago. Its a done deal and over with. Tricia Curtis was caught more recently doing something even more 'evil' in the digiworld..and yet that has been dropped like a hot potato. Get over it already.

and whoever posted about Laura trying to be a Captivated wannabe...you have an obvious Laura B. fixation. Both women have their own style, which is similar but thats it. You don't have to like Laura ( i do, but thats just me. and no, i don't buy her products - but she does design my blinkies and banners which are always done well, affordably and in a fantastic time frame).

I know - - why don't you people let us know who you are so we can see who you are copying, and we can all go from there?

Anonymous said...

Who do you think are the best commercial use designers? With so many out there it's hard to pin point the best quality and originality. I'm curious how designers choose because once you purchase items for commercial use the items cannot be returned for bad quality...is that correct?
-----------

Interesting question and I'm curious as to what answers we are going to see. I don't buy CU, mostly because there's a definite lack of originality. If someone could point out a decent original CU designer, I'd probably be forgiving on the quality issues, if they weren't too bad. There's a fair bit of bad quality CU out there.

---------------------
No, not at all. I haven't defended her here before, but I will say this: everything else she's ever done in running her business and handling her customers and designers has been nothing but classy, and if it weren't for the incidents in the past, she'd be everyone's favorite person in digiland. Most other people who have done similar things in the past haven't changed much or acted differently in the end; they just get better (or not always) at not getting caught. In Miss Tiina's case, though, I'd say the opposite. My guess is that this is why so many people end up telling you to let it die, every time you bring it up here. And yup, it does seem like there's just one or two of you who can't let it die, definitely not a majority.

Anonymous said...

It made me smile, but I wouldn't say it's hilarious.

---

I never ever bring it up. The subject bores me to tears. I was merely asking the question.

As for everyone's favorite person in digi land? Seriously? Why would you think or say that?

Anonymous said...

And yup, it does seem like there's just one or two of you who can't let it die, definitely not a majority.
-------

I would guess it's more than one or two. By selling CU she was not entitled to sell, she screwed over quite a few designers. They had to recall kits and remake product. This is why I think it keeps getting brought up. The non CU designer selling pirated or copyrighted goods only screws over the scrapper, while the CU designer doing the same, screws over other designers as well as the end scrapper.

-----------
I have to agree on this one. I wondered what happened or did I just miss the outcome? Shabby Miss Jenn CLEARLY STOLE A PAPER PRODUCT..selling it as her own...and nothing ever came of it? I'm very confused how Miss Tina paid for her wrong (as she should) but not SMJ. Is it because of their individual status in the community (popularity). I'm asking honestly. I just don't get it.

Anonymous said...

If PBP = Pickleberry Pop, I've seen designers from there get smacked here. So I don't understand how they're the "elite". Most of those designers I've never even heard of but Lindsey Jane stands out as one I know for sure has been smacked here. Of course, she's in several stores too. I always mess up with these dang acronyms too so maybe that's not even the store being referred to.

Anonymous said...

Not to mention Rita/BFA was recently smacked on so I agree. Your "pbp designers are the 'elite'" is crap.

I think you just wanted to see people bash them or the store.

Anonymous said...

Here's a solution to narrowing down some good CU designers - how about naming designers instead of the stores. Naming the store includes too many designers and it seems there isn't a single place where every designer is liked in one shoppe. I'm not bashing anyone for their opinion (I actually agree with some of it myself)..just saying it might be better to narrow down individuals instead.

:)

That won't work either because you have the problem of people being critical of the designer-not because they don't like that designer, but because they have boycotted the shop for whatever reason....thereby boycotting the designer. Seriously, its impossible to just ask a question and get opinions without an entire discussion about bashing. LOL

speaking of overused, these posts probably aren't going to do any of these other CU designers any good if everyone and their cousin starts buying the same items from those people listed... LOL... I won't even buy Miss Tiina's CU anymore because it'll be in 50 kits the next week.

Anonymous said...

tricia curtis got caught using textures - just taking items off someones blogsite and reselling them as her own. the blog owner caught her at it, and she took them down immediately. Then, someone on this blog noticed that alot of her word art/brushes came from PU only fonts. and they turned her in. Suddenly, like half of her inventory was gone.

it pissed me off, as she got caught redhanded...especially with the guy on the blog, and yet nothing was done or said to her. she still sells merrily away with no repercusions. she is obviously one of the lucky ones.

Anonymous said...

Do you know what's interesting about the Tricia Curtis story? This could be nothing, but I was curious after reading above and googled her site and visited her shop. First thing I see on the front page of her store are these calendar templates that look almost exactly like some PU templates I bought from another designer earlier this year (for 2011). Specifically the "scattered" version. Off to do some sleuthing, I'll be back when I find links to compare.

I mean, seriously, we can share information about which designers to buy from and which not to buy from based on quality of work, and can discuss which stores we will or will not purchase from again because of our experiences with purchasing from them in the past...but not if it gives a designer an idea about whether or not it's a store they'd choose to be associated with? Please!

To the OP - I've not purchased from them in the past, and don't know many of the designer's names, but a quick view of their store shows some semi decent previews, though maybe a tad overpriced at times.

you are right. I have always found it to be the best policy to let others make my decisions for me in the workplace.

Where did that come from? She didn't say decide for me, she asked for opinions.

Anonymous said...

riiiight! Opinions from a bunch of unbiased reputable designers. For all you know, COLS could be the one posting her opinion. Multiple times even.

Anonymous said...

You are just as likely (if not more so) to get an honest answer here as you would anywhere else. The fact that you can be anonymous allows people the freedom to say things they wouldn't normally be able to say (without potentially ruining their reputations) in public.

Obviously no one should take what is said about a store or a designer as gospel from anywhere, here or otherwise.

The person or people who bitches about people getting feedback here are hypocrites. Why else are you here if not to see what's being said? It's the same thing as asking for a review of a store or a designer's work. You're here to read what people are saying about this particular industry.

Take your self-righteous hypocrisy elsewhere. You're here reading it, too.

check out laura sandfords blog
http://leora-sanford.blogspot.com/
and I quote

"Digital Dandelions, though still in its baby stage, will be closing at the end of this month. The owner of the store has decided that it's too much to handle and I was actually offered to take it off her hands. I thought long and hard about it because I could see the potential of this "baby" but when I got down to being really honest with myself and my time, I realized that it would just be too much to handle Since no one has offered to buy, Digital Dandelions, we are going to have to close up shop. With that said, I am not ready to hang up my mouse yet. I still love designing and I want to continue doing it, so I have found a NEW home."

so it appears she is moving AGAIN!!
wonder where the other designers are going?

Yes me too, I thought it was Leora's shop. In fact I would have bet my life savings on it. Just a few months ago, I remember her talking about having the amazing chance to open it up, and how it just coincided w/ Little Dreamer closing up, etc. So this doesn't make any sense at all. She didn't want to buy it from herself?

Meanwhile, WTF w/ Michelle Coleman opening up Little Dreamer again? I saw that on FB a day or two ago. Will it be a multi-designer shop again? Or just her products?

Anonymous said...

Right from her blog:

So with that, I am also announcing that I will be joining forces with my brother and sister in law to start a NEW digital home for ourselves! The timing of LDD closing is almost a blessing in disguise. I was internally struggling with what to do, as I knew that managing a new store and bringing in new designers is going to be a time-consuming task, but I really didn't want to leave LDD. Now I don't have to make that choice, and although I am really sad about LDD closing and not working with Michelle, I am exciting to tell you that some of the designers from LDD plan on joining me at my new home!

Doesn't look like she said she owned it. It looks like she was saying she was helping to start it. Totally different things. You don't have to own a store to help start it up or to be an admin or a mod.

Whatever, she's the one who posted designer calls and the like in the DCR earlier this year when it opened. Seemed like she "owned" it to me... whatever you want to call it. Point's still the same.

----------

The point was that she said she already owned it. Based on the quoted text above, she didn't say that. Maybe she said it somewhere else, I don't know. I don't follow her or know her.

I know of several people who work as managers/admin for a store. They help run it, they send out newsletters, they do the promoting, CS, run calls, set up sales, etc. They get paid to do it or work for lessened commission. They are emotionally invested in their stores and are generally concerned about their store's success/failure. That doesn't mean they own it. Big difference.

Maybe she did that because had the name in the digi scrap world and her family didn't. Just because it seemed like she owned it to you, doesn't mean she actually did. It's not the same thing at all.

What personal drama has Amy Stoffel NOT been through? Every forum I've ever been a part of where she's there too, it's at least a post a week about something sad or horrible or hard that she's going through, even if it's just the stomach flu. My take on her is that she's a big-time drama queen. That's not to say that some of the things she's faced recently haven't been legit or hard; just saying that she seems to be an attention-monger about all of it, big and small, where others keep it to themselves. I stopped paying attention whenever she posted some new trauma, because we all know what they say about the boy who cries wolf all the time.

Why does it always have to be about jealousy on this damn blog? No, I just genuinely get annoyed by her. She's notorious for posting in the designer forum things like "I won't be around for a few days, we all have the stomach flu!" and then she's in the forum for the next 2 days anyway. First few times, I thought to myself "oh that's good, she's not as sick as she thought!" but then after like 4 times, it became clear that she will always be around, and is just posting the drama in order to get the 20 "ohh, poor Amy! HUGZ!" comments. Super annoying. The sad part is that by the time it got to actual important stuff, like her dad's illness, I was all worn out from empathy/hugs on the runny noses her kids had, and didn't have a lot of "HUGZ!" left in me. KWIM?

Like I said before, although it has been determined that the colors are some sort of blue and mauve, they read pink and purple to me. Add in the flowers and it looks like a grandma kit. Nothing "manly" or even guyish about it.

I don't really think I'd scrap much of anything with it, because I hate the color palette, but if this was my kit, I would have marketed it as heritage or something. Sharp dressed men make me think of black and chrome and pin stripes and tech-y stuff. Not flowers, buttons, mauve/peach, and old keys.
