New Space

long overdue space for you...

Thanks! Here are some of our "unfinished(?)" businesses from the previous space:

1. "Happy Tits" (SD) and her termination from FPD (somehow involving 9&B's store owner)

2. SMJ and her allegedly scanned elements from Jolee

3. The blog train blog's monkey palette

...

Please do continue.

I agree that Happy Tits blew it big time on this blog, and she clearly has no issues reporting word for word what goes on in her conversations ... so the fact that she isn't doing so with the 9th&Bloom that means she knows she screwed up.

I also think Michelle from Funky is a bitch with an agenda, so I think she probably mis-treated SD too.

Anonymous said...

I think it's pretty likely that Funky Michelle reads here, and that she was the store owner who posted about reading here. My guess is she has not wanted to associate herself and her store with SD ever since she introduced herself to us here with her collab drama...and then came back to stir it up over and over again. Sounds like SD said something stupid to Lizzy and Lizzy told Funky Michelle who then jumped at the smallest opportunity to get rid of SD.

Anonymous said...

you are probably right and if I owned a store I'd be looking for a reason to toss happy tits too

(aside - I would never have accepted her to my store in the first place - her blog shouting her immaturity the way it did and her designs aren't very exciting)

Anonymous said...

Does any designer post here under their real name? Or is everyone too afraid of being totally torn apart?

1. ( o Y o )
2. Scanned stuff? I'd like to see links of both products.
3. The colors are icky!!! Who had good pieces? I'm lazy! Post the good blog links here.

Holy shit! Very, very tacky and unprofessional of Alyssa to post a public note about FPD and 9&B on FB. She's likely messed up any chance of ever getting into a good store not that she could have anyway.

2. it's all in the previous space, do your own work and go look back there and you'll find the links. where have you been?
3. someone already posted a few of the portions that were decent in the previous space, again. DO YOUR OWN WORK. it's not our job to spoon feed this stuff to you.

and yes, I have seen designers post here under their account name before, but usually only to clear up a misunderstanding that they weren't the one targeted for (I remember Chelle doing this once, and maybe Rachael B? -- and oh, of course, happy tits...)

Anonymous said...

I'm the one who posted earlier about being a store owner who reads this blog, and I'm not Michelle. That's not to say that she isn't here checking things out, too, as I am sure a lot of us are. But not fair to assume she's here stirring the pot and trying to provoke Studio Demo, just based on the fact that another store owner offered their opinion up. :-)

Anonymous said...

No one said Funky Michelle was stirring the pot. And even though it's not fair to assume that she is here posting, I do assume that she reads here. I would if I were a store owner.

When did 9th and Bloom become a "big league store"? Don't you have to have "big" sales for that moniker?

FPD will never be "big league" with their ho-hum generic designers.

Anonymous said...

People were guessing that SD was going to be guesting for 9th and Bloom in June. Maybe that is how they became part of this equation/

Anonymous said...

I agree about Funky - it will never go anywhere. Everyone was so excited about it when it re-opened and then it just fizzled.

Anonymous said...

I think it's hard (if not impossible) for a store to move from middle ground to the top. The designers that are middle ground will always stay there because there is no where better to go. Any designer that is better than average will either never sell there, or just use it as a stepping stone to a better store. Sad but true.

It's actually NOT that hard to go back one thread and read a few posts. The blog train just started yesterday, for christsake. Just read thru yesterday's posts. I agree with OP on this one, it's not everyone else's job to search the previous posts and re-post them here, and or to go search the blog train and post the "good links" here. Someone just posted a list of the few worthwhile portions out of the first 20 yesteday. OMG.

Anonymous said...

Except not everyone visits this blog every day. So how would they know they only had to look one page back? No need to get worked up over it.

Anonymous said...

This may help quantify the top stores (or not). Just FYI.

Facebook Fans

9th & Bloom = 1915
SSD = 2022
SO = 1719
SBG = 1796
GP = 1770
CatScrap = 1390
After5 = 2019
TDC = 1283
The Lilypad = 1908
Scrapmatters = 1221
FPD = 951

I realize that this may not really reflect sales. But I usually don't "like" a store in FB unless I want the sales and other promos to come up in my feed. I also find these numbers interesting because individual designers within the stores actually have higher fan bases than the store itself.

Anonymous said...

---------

I'm not sure why that 'surprises' you. I don't like store fan pages, but I do like designer fan pages. Firstly because I don't necessarily like every designer in a single store and secondly, designers give away the occasional freebie. Maybe stores do too, I don't know, but I doubt it.

she said "I'm lazy" and asked if someone would just link her straight to the good blog train portions. any IDIOT would know that it launched yesterday, and that you only have to look back one day. WTF. now who's all worked up? you're the one who keeps posting to defend this lazy idiot. or maybe you're the idiot.

Aimee Harrison has some nice plain cardstock. Armina has some nice plain torn cardstock overlays. If you're a designer, you probably already have the master (blank) copies of these CU items.

Of the monkey things, Digilicious (not Digi-licious, not Digiloulous) and Misty Cato were my two favorites, and I kept most of both kits.

Third place was a 4-way tie: Dutsji, Hornbuckle, Moon, and Milly Dee, but I deleted more than half of each kit.

Mdl, Lolipop and CGD, KOD, PZ, UM, and Mandy King got Honorable Mentions because I kept a couple of things from all of them.

Caveat here - I picked up a lot of ribbons and strings and more than a few papers. The rest was mostly hit and miss, so I don't really have a usable kit. I thought this was better than the Pirate kit, but after checking the file numbers (of things I kept), I think it's only because there were better papers this month. It's hard to believe anything was worse than the pirate kit, but from what I kept, Monkeys was worse!

Anonymous said...

For anyone wanting to see the previews to 60 of the kits, here's the photobucket link:

BUT I'M LAZY!

Seriously people! Having to search for things takes away from my youtube fun. *sighs*

Seriously though, thank you for the link. I'm actually pretty shocked that such a well known designer would scan things that are obviously NOT generic.

And for the blog-train... choo choo.

I'm going to say that my fav is by Wishing Well.. I hope next months palette isn't quite so fugly.

Anonymous said...

the blog train comes out every 2 months. won't be another till August thank heavens.

Anonymous said...

Am I the only one who liked the palette? I just didn't like what people did with it!

Anonymous said...

I liked the palette. Good for something fall...but, I did NOT like the theme. I had signed up for it...and dropped out after I saw the first couple previews...just yuck. Sometimes its better NOT to be associated with one, otherwise my name might be brought up here again, too LOL!

I usually like most of the designers at one store. SSD and SO are examples were there are only a couple designers that aren't my style. So I'm looking for storewide sales. I don't really care about freebies.

It surprised me because I never really thought about that as a trend. It wasn't a bad surprise and it makes sense especially since desingers move around.

Some people love to get freebies and will download anything. Some of the kits are ok considering the color scheme you all had to work with. I just don't understand why the color schemes are always so blah. So it might be better to take these complaints and improve on the next blog train. As the designers offering the freebies, it's a good idea to offer the best samples of your work. I know many of those designers have a better eye for color than the train offers!

I don't think the problem is that it is brought up. It is that it usually results in "contact the designer" because posting here will not stop piracy. Only the original designer can do that. Speaking from experience, 645 is NOT by any means a big number for a FREE mini kit.
If you are confident with the quality of your stuff, you might want to improve the preview. :)

For this particular BT, I usually average 1500-2000 DL's over the course of the month. So 645 in the first 24 hours is good traffic, especially considering that the thing launched mid-week this time and most people (with jobs, anyway) won't get around to this until the weekend. I'm not the "645 OP" by the way... just someone who thinks that someone else should stick to talking ONLY about what they actually know.

I don't think that the blog train should stop by any means. I think it has the potential to bring new customers to the designers who participate in them.

I'm sorry if it hurts your feelings, but the colors in the blog trains have not been very appealing. The Monkey swatch would have been really difficult to work with. I agree with the other poster who said that maybe you all should speak up about the themes/colors when they aren't as nice as they could be. If you are going to put in the hard work to make the mini, it should have the potential to bring you as many new customers as possible. A more appealing swatch would bring in more interest.

You don't need to be offended by hearing that the swatch was ugly, unless you are the one who chose it. And if you are the one who chose it (Trish) maybe you should let someone else suggest a swatch once or twice and see how that goes. Or choose 5 or 6 swatches and let everyone vote.

I think allowing everyone to vote is a great idea. If that takes up too much time then someone else should definitely choose the colors next time to see if it works out better.

They could put up a week long poll in the public forum and let everyone choose. After all, it is the customer who gets the kit. Why not let the majority choose the colors they like. It's win win for customer and designer.

Anonymous said...

I wonder if people are not taking the theme a little bit to much to the letter. "Monkeying around" could mean having fun, and have nothing to do with monkeys, jungles or bananas. Maybe some designers are staying stuck on the wording of the theme, instead of being creative about it. After all, how many people would have use for 100 mini-kits featuring monkeys, even if all of them were great?

Is Shabby Princess the same person as Shabby Miss Jenn?

----------------------------

Nope. Two different folks.

Anonymous said...

Yes to poster 11:07 - the designers are taking both the palette and the theme too literally. And this is the difference between a Top Tier artistic designer and a weak, more mechanical, designer.

Take a look at collabs from the more artisitic of the "Top Tier" stores like 9th & Bloom, Digichick, yeah, yeah, you all know the "Top Tier" names that have been posted here. None of the kits are matchy-matchy, and not all the elements pertain to the theme or title of the collab.

If you can find a CU monkey, then so can every other designer, so either make your own, or don't include one.

Designers in a large blog train like this need to step it UP, not DOWN, and find a way to pull away from the pack.

Anonymous said...

damn why didn't i think of designing burning monkeys for the kit ...

Anonymous said...

I can see that if 100 designers were actually DESIGNING creatively, with whatever color palette and theme, the blog train could become a great mega, but as someone stated, being too litteral about it (and maybe not so creative) gives something that might be not as appealing.

So, maybe it is not the color or the theme that are the "problems".

Anonymous said...

I think many of the designers just did a mini without thinking how it woudl fit together with all the rest of the minis .. so they wanted to do a cute monkey and did it ... not giving a damn that there were already 75 of them.

I do still think a monkey kit with no green for leaves or yellow for bananas is stupid.

Who said you were forbidden from adding other colors? adding a touch of yellow probably would have been a great addition, and would show some "thinking outside the box" from a palette.

Anonymous said...

Good Lord please give me the patience to accept the idiots on this blog. If you don't like the Blog Train or theme or swatch then find something else to bitch about because there are plenty of us who are getting downloads and not just from freebie hunters as I see customers names when they've left comments. Yes, some could have taken the thing a bit farther but this kit is good for making LOs for children who Monkey Around, play Monkey See and Monkey Do along with some of the other word art. Maybe you are the ones who can't see out of the box or you just don't have children that might find this blog train cute, or your kids are past the age for acting like monkeys but actually thinking about it you all are sounding a lot like a barrel of monkeys!! ROFL

Anonymous said...

^^^
Instead of acting like a child pouting because you are not hearing the kind of grateful happy feedback you want on the train, maybe you should take some of it to heart. I am not a freebie hunter. I only download freebies if I'm checking out a new designer.

After following this blog train the only designer I would purchase from based on it would be Misty Cato. And I already purchase from her. I'm sure that there were other potentially good designs there and I may have found new designers I like. But the colors were so off putting to me, that I didn't even bother to download more than 5.

Yes you are probably getting tons and tons of downloads. And they are likely the freebie hunters that are willing to download anything and everything because they NEVER pay for a kit and have to take what they can get. Is that really the only people you want to attract with the blog train?

Sometimes it's not just ungrateful bitches who are making comments. Sometimes it's your potential customer base. Just advice from someone who actually buys kits. Take it or leave it, but know that not all of us are bitching because we didn't get the free kit we felt we "deserved" to have.

Alyssa maybe she read some of the shit you posted on Baby Gaga over the years. It's sure as hell not the first time people have questions whether your child or children are real or made up and where you actually live.

You are a drama whore and you have been for years. You love it. Don't act all surprised that some of the shit you have stirred up over the years online has come back to land in your lap.

Anonymous said...

How about instead of the long story short, you tell us the real story. You have no problem copying and pasting your store owner's email. Why not your emails with Lizzy? Makes me think that there is a little more to the story than you are telling us. And that little bit makes you look really really bad.

Alyssa, I'm sorry but I don't believe what you said about your story with Lizzy. I think there is more to it than you are telling us.

Even if it is true, it isn't that you took the Shilo situation public. It's that you acted a fool in doing it. You went about it in an extremely unprofessional, immature and dramatic fashion. You could have made it public without all of this. You made yourself a pariah.

If Lizzy really did say what you said she did, she did you a favor in telling you that your public behavior is a problem. You could have just taken the advice, changed your attitude and behavior and had a future doing something fun that you obviously enjoyed doing.

Plus she really could have just cut to the chase and told you no, sorry but your design skills aren't even nearly what they need to be to sell in a store like 9&B.

What I'd really like to know is how you, a victim of theft, came out looking like the complete psycho in that scenario. Shilo should have been the one taking the beating. Somehow you managed to pull the rug of shame out from under her and whirl it into your own personal shit storm.

Anonymous said...

It was more than $6. I ruined my reputation because l was planning to retire anyway.
---
Why did you apply to 9&B if you were planning to retire anyway? If you were planning to retire you wouldn't have applied anywhere. That's just an excuse because you got turned down and acted like a child in return which has kind of forced you to retire. Or make a new name and start applying everywhere with it....

Also, if you don't care what we think, why the hell are you here telling us your sob story again?

I was actually one of the people who originally defended you here when you brought out the story with Shilo. At this point I'm beginning to wonder how much of that story was actually true.

SD here you are complaining that Lizzy wouldn't let you into her store because of how you take things public. Can you really blame her? Look at how you handle all the situations that haven't gone your way. You act like a spoiled brat when you don't get what you want.

If what you've said is true then Lizzy absolutely did the right thing telling you no. Why would she want you in her store? Even if you were the most talented designer out there, you are an insane drama magnet. You offer nothing to a shop but a huge headache and a bad reputation by association. And you obviously don't see that you have brought this on yourself. Not only do you not take ownership of your poor behavior, you seem proud of it.

Actually Alyssa, we are all just like you. We have real lives outside of digi scrap when we turn off our computers. We come here to be entertained by a little bit of drama and to find out what is happening in digi scrap. The difference is that the rest of us can still go about the community enjoying ourselves, while you made yourself look like a complete ass and the village idiot.

You can say you don't care what we think. But you are still here defending yourself.

SD I actually kind of feel bad for you because I don't think you realize the damage you could be doing to yourself right now. All of your name calling and insulting people's lifestyles is just making you look worse.

I don't know if you realize it, but a lot of employers Google their potential employees before hiring them. The more you continue to stir things up, the more bad links appear online for your future employers to read. You may not care about your online persona, but your future employer is bound to. And with the current job market, there are so many people looking for employment, that you never know what might be the one thing that will cause you to be passed over.

If you really are about to graduate from college, that means you are on the threshold of a new career. If I were you, I'd call it a loss, walk away now and try to learn from my mistakes.

If you don't believe me, feel free to Google the name Amanda Dykan. Her whole downfall began first with her poor choices regarding copyright. But that was really blown up after she repeatedly poking a stick at the readers of this blog. You might find that the things you say and do online can cause long term damage.

Very good point. You may want to pay attention to that, Alyssa.
If you plan on being a teacher then you definitely need to worry about how you look. Schools will google you, check your facebook, myspace, blogs, anything they can find. In your case they would find a lot right now and it wouldn't be good.

Online business is actually a great deal MORE about reputation than it is about product.

Maybe you think it shouldn't be, but it is. (Don't believe me? Go do some marketing training. You'll find out that all big business hire several full time staff for reputation management alone.)

Unless you have a product that is unique and people can't get it anywhere else (and I'm not sure such a product even exists anymore) then your reputation is the ONLY thing that sets you apart from your competitors.

When you grow up, you'll realize that it's true. For now though carry on being young and immature. It's amusing me.

Anonymous said...

That was good advice the op gave you about your future. Some employers actually hire people to find out about you. Online searches are easy. Schools are not lax about whom they hire.

Your statement that you have someone who can get you in tells me a lot about you. It tells me that you live a life where you have been enabled and spoon fed and that you feel very entitled. Which explains a lot about your behavior here.

That's not how the real world works. Once you are out from under mommy and daddy's wing, your tantrums and obnoxious behavior are not going to get you what you want. It's just going to get you fired and repeatedly ostracized.

I am not going to pretend that I care about your future, because I don't. However, I am going to take a moment to thank God that I do not live in Bermuda, where it is a possiblity that you could someday be a teacher to my children.

You are constantly telling us how sad our lives are because we are all worked up about this internet drama, but apparently that doesn't apply to you, even though you are here, almost constantly. The fact that you like drama tells me that your life isn't as interesting as you make it out to be. Which is probably why you think we all have boring and horrendous lives too. But maybe you can teach the kids "fuck" in those languages too.

Alyssa you aren't a very nice person. I think you are not very happy with your life which is why you are so nasty here. You seem to think that your actions online do not reflect on you as a person because it is "online" and not real life. But guess what, it is still YOU doing it, your actions and what you say make you the person that you are. Does it really matter if it's online or off? You have to live with the person that you are either way.

Let's skip over the fact that you are here ONLINE shitting on everyone who is online, but guess what, some of us work online. I make a good living online. It is possible, despite your own bad experience with it. Coming to this blog is like going to the watercooler for some gossip. Thanks for providing some for us, btw.

I would happily own up to the fact that I completely love every minute of my "boring" at home life. With my family and friends who care about me. Also I love my online life and job, and the several close friendships that I've made that started online and moved into real life, which I have not ruined by publicly acting badly. Oh...and I also like my 5 kid boobies.

I think the fact that your online job didn't work out for you (because of your own actions btw) has made you bitter toward everyone that it does work for. Now...back to work for me. Thanks for the break!
