To everyone who has their panties in a wad either way over the person asking how many pills it takes to kill yourself or whatever. Have you even been on the internet long? It is a troll people and they achieved their goal, which was to make you upset and stir the pot.
It was probably one of those newer designers alerted by Trish. You know, the ones who took offense because we were smacking their blog train? Seems like since that happened there have been way too many ridiculous comments.
Going back to the previous subject of high prices. I think if digiscrappers had to compare what they pay for a digital kit to what they would pay for paper scrapping supplies they'd be grateful for a $10 pricetag.
Personally I would rather pay a little more for a kit of smaller size that was well done than get a kit for free that was loaded with stuff but it was all overused CU and actions.
Who cares if you get 100 elements in a kit if they are all the same elements I get in any other kit out there.
Typically, I don't use a kit for more than a few pages, and I still save compared to what I would've spent on those supplies for paper scrapping.
I loathe the cost comparison between digital and paper scrapping. It's completely irrelevant. It's like comparing a physical CD or DVD purchase with an iTunes purchase.
Digi scrappers are digi for several reasons and one of them is the price tag. End of story.
For the rest, I agree. I'd rather pay a bit more and get something decent and original.
You can't really use the argument that you can use a digi over and over because most people don't. They make a few pages and then that's it with that kit.
Yes I do, but I still save compared to what I would spend having to but paper scrapping products.
Regardless of whether you choose to use them over and over, they are still saving immensely. Even using a digikit only once, you still save a lot compared to paper scrapping even paying $10 on a kit.
While they are both scrapping, it's not the same thing.
In paper, a fabric flower or piece of lace or something similar, is just that, something tangible.
In digi, it's just a photo. I can't use any of them in the same way that I can use the real version. Sure, I can print them out, but they would still only be a photo of a fabric flower, etc.

Ummm, no you're not. I'm a traditional and a digital scrapper. There's no way I spend $10 in paper scrapping supplies to make a few pages. No way. And when those pages are complete - they're complete. I don't have to print them and add that cost too.
Exactly. I think people forget that when you buy a roll of ribbon, or a packet of brads, flowers, stickers etc, they don't all get used to make one page, they get used to make multiple pages.
I was a paper scrapper before digital and digital is NOT any cheaper - but it is more convenient and it all stores in my laptop and not all over my house.
Once you add the cost of printing, binding, kits, and the cost of technology (programs, EHDs, computer upgrades, etc), it really adds up. But I will take it any day because I can undo with a click and I like having my office space back.
The argument that digi is cheaper than paper because you can reuse things over and over again isn't realistic. People do not reuse the same thing over and over again. I can't blame them, either.
And, digi being cheaper than paper is really a matter of perspective.
I have never paper scrapped so why would I compare the prices !! I'm not a freebie hoarder but I do like seeing a fair priced kit or a good deal. $8/10 for a kit is IMO high priced I tend to look for kits around the $4/5/6 mark and if there is a sale going on even better.

************************
This exactly. The paper vs. digi comparison means nothing to me, because I've never paper scrapped or wanted too. $5 is my limit to spend on a kit. I don't shop by volume, I shop by what appeals to me and what I need to scrap for. So I might spring for a higher kit if I really need to make a back to school page, for example, and there's nothing in my $5 price range that appeals to me, but for the most part, I can always find a kit that fits my budget for any project without spending more than that.
Honestly, I find $10 a high price for store collabs, so I'm not going to pay that for a regular sized kit.
Op here. I wasn't thinking about digital VS real. I was thinking digital VS a 2nd margarita when we go out. VS gas in my tank. VS a new Swiffer for my one with the broken handle.
I have better things to spend my $10.00 on right now, but if I did want to splurge, a $10.00 kit would be absolutely out of the question and I'd be looking at $5.00 kits (maybe on sale!) or maybe just papers or element packs.
I remember paper scrapping and some of the paper kits you could buy at Michael's were upwards of $20, and I was really hooked on the dimensional stickers like Jolee's, which retail for about $7 where I live.
Since I discovered digi, I definitely spend way less (even with software - I think I paid only about $70 for my copy of PSE from Costco). I do not feel that $10 is a ridiculous price. Do I routinely pay that for a kit? No, but if I see something I really like I will spend that or more if it's a large kit or a bundle.
As much as I love a good sale, as a business person I sometimes wonder why these designers are practically giving their stuff away - I mean, I've seen people selling their entire stores for $10. To me this makes no business sense to undervalue your product this much.
I was thinking digital VS a 2nd margarita when we go out.
----------------
If you're still going out, and having even one margarita while doing it, you've got more expendable income than the vast majority. So you should be able to afford that new Swiffer... just sayin.
I've seen people selling their entire stores for $10. To me this makes no business sense to undervalue your product this much.
_______________
Amen! Though I find that the people who are doing the buy-my-store for $10 usually have products that are, well, worth that amount. I've not seen a good, reputable, talented designer from a top shop do a deal like that. It's usually the mid-level designers from the mid-level shops.
Oh yeah, those $10 buy my store deals. I have looked, out of curiosity, and I would not spend that, while I might consider paying $50 for another buy my store deal, if I can get my money's worth.
And the perception of value, is just that: perception. If you feel that buying a dress for $50 is your max, fine. But does it mean that another dress, in another store with a price tag of $200 is overpriced? Probably not because it might be a different quality, a different store, and a different use. And those stores are still thriving because there is still a market for them. Maybe YOU are not in that market and that is fine, but I surely would not blame the store/designers for having higher price.
Choose your price/quality ratio, and what fits you, and be happy with it, while others will have a different perception, and be fine too.
Yes I agree and the dress is a good analogy. The point I want to make is that my purchases have changed recently. And the designers who were getting my business just a month or so ago are not now getting my business. The sole reason is cost, and I wondered if there are more people like me and it could be called a trend, or if I'm just a fluke?
Some "no name" designers are now getting orders from me, so both people could be right...one's business in a "top tier" store is going down, and one in a not so good store is going up.
And thanks for the Swiffer comment. LOL! The handle broke - I can still use it, but it's a little short for me. :)
Maybe YOU are not in that market and that is fine, but I surely would not blame the store/designers for having higher price.
Choose your price/quality ratio, and what fits you, and be happy with it, while others will have a different perception, and be fine too.
---------------
I believe this topic came up, in the first place, because a few people had said that sales weren't good. If those are designers that choose to have a higher price point, perhaps the less than stellar sales come from the fact that most people aren't in the market for the higher price.
A designer may decide, on principle, that they're not going to lower their prices and that their kits are worth the price point they set. However, no matter what their principles are on the matter, it doesn't mean the customer will agree. To insist on a higher price even if it negatively impacts sales because you believe your kits are worth that price is sort of like cutting off your nose to spite your face.
As far as the digital vs paper scrapping comparisons...I've never paper scrapped and don't intend to. Therefor, telling me it's costing me less for digital supplies is a moot point. Not everyone who digiscraps came from the paperscrapping world...or want to go there.
If you're still going out, and having even one margarita while doing it, you've got more expendable income than the vast majority. ------
Not the OP but I disagree. Some people, like us, make cuts elsewhere and save every penny so we can enjoy going out every now and again.
_____________
All you're saying is that you value margaritas more than scrapping. Some of us aren't into that, and would rather stay in and have some "me" time scrapping. There's no right or wrong here... either way, someone has expendable income. That was my point.
I never said anything about margaritas. I said going out to dinner. All I was saying is that some of us choose to save our pennies for that kind of thing and it may have nothing to do with an expendable income. That's my point.
Not the OP but I disagree. Some people, like us, make cuts elsewhere and save every penny so we can enjoy going out every now and again.
-------------
Not to get into a semantic argument, but technically you're not "saving" pennies if you are spending them. "Saving" means putting it in the bank. Too late, I just started a semantic argument.
Regardless - times are hard for a lot of people right now and money's tight. Not just in the US - I've heard people on the news talking about a global recession. So it all comes down to choices - do you spend $10 on a digital kit or do you buy your margarita and a $3.00 kit? Especially when there are so many really good designers out there who aren't charging an arm and a leg. Maybe they're not at a so called top tier store but that doesn't mean they can't put together a great kit.
I think it's sick that people want unique/hand drawn/everything created from scratch kits for $3 or LESS.
What a bunch of shit that is.
Then you all act like the designers who recolor flowers and make pretty decent kits filled with CU are the devils. As if the time they save you from doing it all yourself isn't even worth $3.
It must be nice to have so little to do or think about in your life.
Maybe you should all go eat some more dessert and have another drink to destress from your incredibly difficult lives as spoiled, stay at home moms.
Who are you to decide what can be asked here and what should be asked at DST? This blog is for all of us and doesn't cater only to the discussions that serve you.
Bella Gypsy at Gotta Pixel is having a sale now and you can get a full kit for $3 or $4. I like their stuff personally. Also, always check out the clearance section or retiring soon section at your favorite stores. You might find something on your wish list that's been marked down. Certain stores have regular sale days. Find out the sale day of your favorite place. Visit the blogs of designers you like and sign up for their newsletters. They will often send coupons to those on their newsletter list. Or check their Facebook. It's just like grocery shopping - look for deals and enjoy. Remember that digiscrapping is a FUN hobby.

With Love Studio - seems like another Digital Dandelions scenario where they started a site that never worked from the get-go and then went belly up. Anyone know anything about this place or person? The whole "drama" thing makes me thing maybe someone from here?
I would rather sell a $4/5 kit to 100 scrappers than a $7 to just 40 scrappers
September 28, 2011 10:44 AM ----------- Yes, except I don't think this happens. Even the best designers from the "Top Tier" stores are likely hard-pressed to sell 40 copies of the same kit, let alone 100 copies. It just doesn't happen in such an oversaturated market.

September 28, 2011 10:46 AM ----------- My observations?
The "tier" verbiage is something I see used here often, but not really used elsewhere. Leads me to believe the owner (or whomever drafted that ad) does in fact read here - which means she enjoys drama, no matter what she claims she is trying to accomplish in her store.
Also, anyone who has to go out of their way to SAY they are trying to create a drama-free environment (or that they hate drama, avoid drama, etc etc) usually is the person who brings the MOST drama to any group situation.
Mostly? The fact that a new store owner would have to address the topic of drama in her designer call graphic tells me I wouldn't touch her or this store with a 10ft pole. Way to start off on an unprofessional, immature and childish foot. Truly, the mention of "drama" would have no place on the marketing materials of a professionally-minded store owner.
Train wreck just waiting to happen. Mark my words!

---------- I think you would be very surprised. I don't sell in a top tier store and I sell well over 40 copies/kit on average. Many are well over 40 copies, but we all have stinkers sometimes.
Alyssa, lovingly called on this site as "Happy Tits" (referring to her blog header at that time), was Studio Demo. She created quite a big buzz around here back in late May - early June. If you have an extreme need to kill time, you may read more about her here: http://dsthof.blogspot.com/2011/06/new-space.html Otherwise, don't bother.
^^^^ Uh, no, I didn't mean that the new store owner is THAT Alyssa. I thought the PP (is it you?) didn't know what the "joke" was about. ("The owner's name is Alyssa. Have a field day with that one.") Sorry if I confused you.
I think it's sick that people want unique/hand drawn/everything created from scratch kits for $3 or LESS.

Learn to read, we said we would pay around $10 for something unique.
Something that is production line is only worth a production line price.

It isn't coz I can do it better than most. I don't mind recolored, I'm sick and tired of poor recolored, which is what I think of a lot of scrappers are tired of.
Maybe you should all go eat some more dessert and have another drink to destress from your incredibly difficult lives as spoiled, stay at home moms. ---------
Thanks, I will. I worked long and hard to earn my place as a stay at home mom and I full intend to be spoiled.
The designer's name I was given is Bean Bunny (Janet). I know they've been discussed here beforehand, but that's a lot of comments to read through to try to figure out if she was an actual problem or just an association. That's the only thing I know of them, though.
I think it is that Alyssa. The childishness of the call, the name and now Bean Bunny? What's that saying? There's no such thing as a coincidence. Oh, and the whole With Love Studio after she was Studio Demo.
first off, everything they have for their site is FREE stuff. boo. and I got an email too. I want NOTHING to do with whats-her-tits or her slimy sidekick
You would think that BEFORE a store has a designer call that they would have their forum/shop/blog/SOMETHING set up already! Already what 6/7 of us have said we were invited? But they only want 10-12 designers?
I was struck by a lot of things, some of them already mentioned. But not mentioned yet:
1. They are only asking for previews of applicant's work, not a sample. Guess they aren't too worried about the quality of work they'll be getting from the brand new designers they are inviting to come help them build their empire? (har har har)
2. The "owner" is not going to design. She is going to "focus on running the store." Yet, she "won't be making money off the designers," they are only trying to pay their server/hosting fees. Ummm... sure. And what would be her motivation for doing the work involved in running a store if she is not going to be making anything for her effort?
Alyssa, you are seriously one heck of a head trip. Give it up, girl. I'm sure your previous store owners weren't making mint off you back when you were putting out CU recolored crap every now and again. Get over yourself.
Like a previous poster said - someone who says they want a drama free place is usually the biggest drama maker of them all. And, we've all personally seen what Alyssa is capable of right here on this blog! She can't get along with anyone. Fights with her fellow designers, store owners, even her own CT. She is an absolute drama queen.
Geez. When I saw the crazy posts and brought them here, I never thought it would open this can of worms again. At least we have something good to talk about now! I missed the whole Studio Demo thing and only found it right AFTER she deleted everything. I'm sure she'll be back for a repeat so I'll keep checking back!
Yeah, but did you notice that Studio Demo has a new identity???
------------------
exactly. I noticed that, too.
why would she bother, though? seems off. if I were her, I would have just signed-up w/ a completely new account/username. and a new photo, and not waste my time getting DST to change my current username. if she wants to stay in this biz, she REALLY needs nobody to know it's her. like, really.
i see allison pennington is leaving catscrap. any clue where she is headed?
-----------------
yes, the rest of us saw that and discussed it last week.
-----
Yeah, and I'm still waiting for the answer to my question as to which designers have left or are leaving, aside from Allison. Someone basically implied that quite a few have left over the last month or so. I haven't seen it.
from what I see....its subscription only - $5 per month, and you can download what "content" they have available, plus "freebies". You have to 'subscribe' to access anything. nothing is actually for sale except the subscription itself.
What I dont get is site ct members enabling other stores but the one they ct when as per contract they are to enable the store and its designers. Why do these sites keep these people on the team especially if they are not pulling their own weight as far as what their contract states?
It's pretty rare to find CT members who do everything you ask of them. Maybe 3 out of 10 if you're lucky. Most are on so many teams, it's really, really sick. And most of them lie about it, too.
It ticks me off, too, but, what can you do about it if the stores and designers don't do anything? I know most are afraid the disgruntled CT member will cause trouble if they kick them out, but who in their right mind would side with a CT member who got kicked off a team because they didn't do their responsibilities? That's what's messed up.
I am not the op but I do think it is strange to see people saying they are site ct somewhere in their siggy, yet in their enabling posts at DST they are enabling another designer or store outside of their site ct. You would think if they can't enable their own store that they ct for that they would remove themself from the team and apply to be on those teams/sites that they are constantly enabling in post after post? Would make sense to me and probably the site they are supposed to be enabling and scrapping. Just my two cents, but who cares what an anonymous poster says.
I have to admit I dont enable all my designers the same. It is hard to enable a new designer who only has a page or two of products in her store compared to another designer who has hundreds of products in her store.
I dont ct for a store, just individual designers, but I think I would find it easier to enable for a store than individual designers; especially with the search bar in the stores.
But what do you do about the ct members who dont live up to their full potential? Most places do nothing and turn a blind eye towards it. You, the op, if you are a community member of that said store, email the owner and bring it to their attention because maybe they dont know this is happening. If you are on the same ct, email the person in question and ask them why they enable other designers and sites instead of the one she ct's.
If CT members aren't doing what you have required of them, you have 2 choices: remove them from the team or take a look at your requirements and see if they are too much. Remember that (unfair or not) more popular stores and designers can add more requirements and still keep good CT members.
And please remember that CT members are not slaves. Unless you said in your agreement that they can't enable anyone else, then they are allowed to recommend any designer or kit that they like.
I don't think asking someone to make 3-4 layouts a month is going to be too much for anyone. I know my requirements aren't much. But, when the CTM is on 20 teams, of course 3-4 layouts for each team will be a lot for most people.
I do get rid of bad CTMs. And that's exactly what they are - bad.
I never think of my CTMs as slaves. I do all my own blog posts, advertising, etc. I just want them to make layouts and enable me a couple times a month. That's IT and I still can't get some people to make layouts. I'm lax on the enabling as long as they make layouts for me during that month. I enable myself as often as I can anyway. The extra eyes are just gravy.
Why even bother to be on a CT if you don't even have time to scrap! Makes no sense.
Personally, I think most CTMs like to be treated like slaves. The teams they all fight over have you doing blog posts, enabling, 3-4 layouts, running challenges, making their freebies, etc. That is TOO MUCH for a CTM, but, they all line up around the corner to do it.
Oh what crap. No one wants to be treated like a slave. Everyone wants to be valued, and have their work valued, but don't mistake wanting a free kit or two for wanting to be treated like crap. 3-4 layouts a month times say 5 teams is 15 - 20 pages a month. Plus enabling. That is a lot.
I started the ct-talk. I am not a designer at said store. I am not a ct member at said store but a patron. What I do not like is how the store doesn't have ct calls but continues to keep those people guesting for the ct on as permanent. Then a few months, or sometimes weeks, later noticing the ct member isn't active at the site and is promoting another site and other designers outside of said store.
Maybe I will email the owner and complain about their ct members not scrapping said store layouts in the gallery, hosting challenges/speed scraps like they are supposed to be doing as well as posting to other off-site designers/stores!
I agree. If you don't design there, what do you care? Are you so uptight that you won't buy from a designer/store if their ct doesn't 'behave' in the manner you think they should?
That's a far cry from being the brightest kit I've seen recently, and/or from Bella Gypsy's brightest kit, and doesn't seem worthy of pointing out here on a smack blog. My guess is you're attempting to enable it by posting something here that will make everyone look at it. Low, and stupid.
--------------------
THEN DON'T BE ON 5 TEAMS, IF IT'S A LOT! This is my big beef w/ almost all CTM's nowadays. Yes, 15-20 pages a month plus enabling is a lot. But nobody said you had to be on multiple teams. Pick. Prioritize. But do what you're supposed to do, and what you signed-up to do, or else why do you expect these designers to give you free kits? Jeeeeezus.
So a new blog train starts tomorrow, has anyone seen the previews yet? Is it worth my time? I seem to recall a bunch of hoopla here on the blog a month or two ago because Trish picked a bad pallette or some crap. Everyone's feathers were ruffled for a few days, but have not heard another word since. As a scrapper I am curious to know what to expect?
I hadn't looked at the blog train until you posted because I never participate. I checked it out in the DCR since you asked and my opinion is that the palette is kind of blah. Its not bright. I think they were going for soft and neutral and generally these are the palettes I prefer. And if I look at the palette by itself, it looks like it should work, but somehow the contributions that I peeked at (just a handful of them) look too washed out, or lack contrast or just aren't all that interesting.
Re: blog train, I'm not participating but I do have DCR access and you can go into the PB account and see the previews from the check-in thread, so I peeked. Most of them are god-awful. There were also a few that looked like they might have potential to be good. So: probably the same as most other months for that blog train. 5-10 good pieces and 90-100 terrible ones.
Speaking of blog train, where have Simon Piers and Randy run off to? Haven't seen a post from them in ages. They did some really good reviews/breakdowns of the last blog train.
You know what would be nice for the blog train? If you didn't have to go through all the yucky ones to get the good ones. Like the way some of the freebie sites are set up with thumbnails of everything that link to the blog post with the download. Then they would all be in one place and you could just grab the ones you like, or think you might like, and it would take so much less time.
If you check on SuzyQ's freebie list after the blog train has started, you can get several previews that you can pick and click on the ones that seem interesting enough to start. Not 100% foolproof but could be a way to filter.
No discussion that Brine Designs and Amy Stoffel have landed at 9th&Bloom? I see another designer there too, though no one I've ever heard of....Inspired Designs or something like that.
^^^ Didn't Piers post a new review a week or two ago, before we got our new space? Shoot, I don't remember the link to the reviews blog but I thought she said a part 2 was also coming. Has anything else been posted?
You know what would be nice for the blog train? If you didn't have to go through all the yucky ones to get the good ones. Like the way some of the freebie sites are set up with thumbnails of everything that link to the blog post with the download. Then they would all be in one place and you could just grab the ones you like, or think you might like, and it would take so much less time.
--------------------
You know what else would be nice for the blog train? If they stopped letting the yucky designers participate at all. Good God Almighty. There's no need for 100+ stops when 90+ of them aren't worth anything. It should be invite-only.
^^^ But then, that would make even more gossip and hard feelings. Now, it is open to all, just like anyone can call themselves designers and find a spot in a store, somewhere in digiland. It is up to you, the "consumer" to pick and choose. And really, it is not like anyone HAS to follow the blog train or download from it. If you don't need anything in those colors, maybe you don't need to spend time going through it anyways.
there WERE a couple of nice palettes submitted for this blogtrain. they were voted out by the majority...and that majority are the ones you will see offering the 'yucky' stuff. Guaranteed. I see only a handful, if that of decent contributions.....its pretty awful for the most part. They were supposed to send out a list of who all is participating on the 28th, which hasn't been done....quite a few have dropped out and confirmed that with Trish, who, of course has been MIA since the 22nd. as of right now - the 'formal' list contains blogs that are NOT participating...but no one will know that.
I am participating in this month's blog train, although I almost didn't. I didn't love the palette that ended up winning the vote and could not understand why so many people did. But, I did end up making a little something for it and it turned out well. Whether you all want to believe it or not, there is a lot of traffic from that blog train and in the end, I didn't want to miss out on that the month before DSD.
I agree there is some hideous stuff this month, but I don't agree that 90 of the 100 stops are not worth your time. That is REALLY an exaggeration and the two people who said it are just being nasty for the fun of it. What I will say is that I am not liking the "do your own theme" thing. I get that it was aimed at not having so many repeated elements (like 50 monkeys a couple trains back). But, now I think there is not enough unity because of the lack of theme. Instead of no theme, Trish needs to come up with some sort of broad theme, something that is specific enough that there is a uniting thread, but not so specific as something like 'Monkeying Around' where half the designers can't come up with an idea other than including monkeys and bananas.
By the way, I HATE the invite-only idea. That is the kind of snobbish bullshit that makes this industry cliquey. I appreciate that Trish lets the first 100 people sign up and then, as a consumer, you have a choice as to whether you want to travel the train at all, whether you want to download or not. There would be no possible way to determine who "should be" invited in that kind of system, anyway. The 10 people you would like would not be the same 10 people someone else would like. Yes, it would be great if Trish would make a post on the blog train blog showing a linked thumbnail of each preview so you could hop right to the contributions you think you might want, but considering she hasn't even shown up with a finalized list on the day before the train is to go live? I doubt we could get her to put that much effort into things.
In the end of things, it's a FREEBIE blog train. Don't like it? Don't download/ride it. No one is forcing you to.
Give me an effing break. There is nothing wrong with the Oct. Blog Train. The color pallet was easy to use and I think that there are a lot of nice "kits". You obviously are just picky picky picky but then again that is what most who pan it here are. So don't like it don't download it. No one is holding a gun to your head and if you don't participate you really don't have any right to grouse about what those of us who did participate did. You groused last time and mine was downloaded the most ever as well as the number of nice comments I received so what's wrong with this picture-your taste????? ROFL
Personally, I think most CTMs like to be treated like slaves. The teams they all fight over have you doing blog posts, enabling, 3-4 layouts, running challenges, making their freebies, etc. That is TOO MUCH for a CTM, but, they all line up around the corner to do it. ----
Yeah, who? Personally, I think you are talking crap.
I'm not a CT but I've heard stories of designers going apeshit crazy when a CT member leaves. So really you never know who to believe. ----
The people who told you those stories are not ones to believe. In all my years of being either a scrapper. designer or CT, no one I personally know has ever gone apeshit when a CT leaves.
What's messed up is anyone believing that stores and designers are afraid to dismiss CTMs if they are being lax. We aren't talking about people who have power dismissing their maids and they have juicy secrets. We are talking designers and CTMs. If any of them have big juicy secrets they told, well, that's their fault.
--------------------
Wow, aren't you the queen goddess of digiscrap? All hail, bow down to the queen...
Take the chip off your shoulder and listen for a minute: some of us LIKE having no theme. This is mainly because some of the previous themes are awful, but moreso because most scrappers DO want variety. The best thing about the last blog train (and about this one starting tomorrow) is that most of the papers will go w/ any kit, but the scrapper gets to choose the elements to suit their taste. It DOES all match, it's from the same palette. But it's not the same old shit, over and over, ad nauseum. I looked through the photobucket just now and had there been a theme, a few of the submissions that are actually GOOD would probably not have been made, because those designers thought outside the box and made something unique. I looked at it and wished I had thought of a few of the ideas they thought of.
So don't preach to us. Some of us like the flexibility Trish is offering, and want the rest of you to shove it in your piehole every time you try imposing your opinions on the masses.
I've had a look through photobucket, too - and I'd actually say only 10 to 20 of them are total crap. There are many that are not my style, but that doesn't make them crap.
So don't preach to us. Some of us like the flexibility Trish is offering, and want the rest of you to shove it in your piehole every time you try imposing your opinions on the masses. -----
She wasn't preaching, however, you most decidedly were. Take the chip off your own shoulder. The minute you get rude is the minute you lose any credibility you had, which was not much in the first place.
So don't preach to us. Some of us like the flexibility Trish is offering, and want the rest of you to shove it in your piehole every time you try imposing your opinions on the masses.
She wasn't preaching, however, you most decidedly were. Take the chip off your own shoulder. The minute you get rude is the minute you lose any credibility you had, which was not much in the first place. ---------------- Credibility? On an anonymous smack blog??? LOLOLOLOL.
What a joke. They make such a big deal about checking in by the 28th for the blog train and then no one can actually follow-up as they said they would. It's not just Trish, she has helpers. Not one of them could follow-up on the date they said they would?
Seriously, you have to fight with your CTMs to do layouts? Any CTs I have been on, we all couldn't wait to scrap with whatever new kit was coming out. If your CTMs don't want to scrap with your kits when they are getting them for free do you think anyone will want to pay for it? If you have that much trouble getting your CTMs to use your product, you might want to rethink what you are putting out there. Just sayin'.
If you are just a patron, how the heck does this situation effect you in any way, shape or form?
THEN DON'T BE ON 5 TEAMS, IF IT'S A LOT! This is my big beef w/ almost all CTM's nowadays. Yes, 15-20 pages a month plus enabling is a lot. But nobody said you had to be on multiple teams. Pick. Prioritize. But do what you're supposed to do, and what you signed-up to do, or else why do you expect these designers to give you free kits? Jeeeeezus. ------------
No discussion that Brine Designs and Amy Stoffel have landed at 9th&Bloom? I see another designer there too, though no one I've ever heard of....Inspired Designs or something like that. ----
Why should there be a discussion? Is there supposed to be drama?

Trish completely dropped the ball with the blog train this month. Even with 'help', it's a wreck.
Blog train blog main page isn't even updated yet. ---------------------------
Yeah, I noticed that too. A shame.. also not all designers have posted their portion. I suppose there is no time for them to be posted.. but by today I guess?

The entire post was about how CTMs are on so many teams they can't keep-up. I'm sure the OP has CTMs who make LOs, but every designer has or has had at least one CTM who is on 100 teams and can't be bothered to make LOs unless she's managed to drive-by your forum.
Let's not take things out of context just to put someone down. There are plenty of opportunities to put each other down without making them up.
So, Scrappity-Doo-Dah updated their store/forum look. Looks TONS better, I think, and maybe a sign that they're doing some improvements to the site as a whole?
Of course, then I see that they added a new designer:
oh please - I've had surgery before and still gotten my shit done, even while on heavy pain meds. I wonder if this makes her unable to participate in the next few trains, because she certainly dropped the ball.
Jesus H. Christ. Her surgery was THIS week. And from what she said, didn't go as planned. Have some fucking compassion. It's not like it's the middle of the fucking month. It's THE day the blog train launches.
Anyway.. let's be nice to Trish, kk? I'm pretty sure we are a hard group to please!
Anyway the Blog Train Blog.. I went through all the links and this is what I downloaded. I still may pick and delete through it but here are the ones I took
It's not that I have no compassion for her. As I understand it, it was a planned surgery. Why not make sure everything is in order so that one of her helpers could mail out the final order and make sure everything is going smoothly.
On top of that there were designers that said they e-mailed or PM'd her weeks ago to say they couldn't participate. Surgery or not she dropped the ball. Now she will probably post some sob story in the DCR about how she doesn't have to organize it, etc, etc, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if she doesn't do it next month and honestly, that is fine with me.
You're being too hard on Trish - yes, she could have done everything you said, and easily, too, but really, to what end? Is it important to anybody that the blog train leave the station at exactly midnight on Oct 1? No.
No one cares except you and you are being ridiculous to keep pressing the issue.
To the Blog Train download list, I wanted to add a newcomer name: Kathy Winters. Newcomer to me, anyway,
The Blog Train is a MARKETING opportunity for designers running a BUSINESS.
Yes, things happen, but it was planned surgery and she has helpers she should have delegated to HELP. That's why they're there. Did they all go to her house and get stoned on her pain meds?
She always has some excuse and it's just that - an excuse. She has no idea how to delegate or take her role as an organizer seriously enough.
As for the tapeworm, I, too, almost peed myself laughing.
Regardless of whose fault it is, what reasons are behind it, etc, I honestly think this blog train was a train wreck--between missing posts and incorrect (and missing) links, wow. What a disorganized mess. I gave up at even looking about half way through.
There were some that were ok but weren't my style. A couple that I'm still debating on whether or not to download but for now -

Goes to show you how different tastes are ... of the ones you liked ...
www.sugarscraps.com - I find this really simple and boring
wendybirddesigns.blogspot.com/ - in my opinion, cluster templates are a huge waste of hard drive space
bzb-designs.com/blog/ 0 this is very mishy mashy ... stars together with circles and a baroque paper patterns? It's like her elements are for one feel of kit and her papers are for another.
ellielash.com/blog/ - this one I liked but not enough to download and keep. It's also very simple.
sixtyeight.wordpress.com/ - ew. I hate polka dots.
www.wishingwellcreations.com/ - I don't like this at all. I don't think the colors are a fit for a football mini. I don't find anytime interesting about the patterns (polka dots again)
studioqscrap.com/ - to me this is so, so boring. There is very little texture on the papers and I don't see any elements I would actually use (I like small-ish clustering)
bonscrapatitdesigns.blogspot.com - this one is cute, I'll agree with you there.
www.pixelscrapper.com/ - this looks very amateur to me, and is so uninspiring and boring I can't imagine why you'd want any of it.
I am just an average scrapper, not a designer. I am not active on any CT's, although I have been in the past. I am not active in any "scrapbook community", I don't post on the message boards, and I don't post my layouts online anymore. I read the Digi boards for entertainment, and am constantly amazed at what people share on the internet. I freely admit to reading the scrapbook smack blogs, it is a guilty pleasure.

To the martyr in the previous posting... depression is an illness. Being suicidal and coming onto a smack blog to find help is just plain stupid.
How does my post make me a martyr? Do you even know the meaning of that word? Talk about stupid.
My advice, let it go.
^^^^^
Prime example of ridiculous comment.
This whole thing is ridiculous.
Seriously. Let it go.
If you want walmart prices, expect walmart crap.
I like to think of myself as more of a Target girl.
You can't really use the argument that you can use a digi over and over because most people don't. They make a few pages and then that's it with that kit.
Typically, I don't use a kit for more than a few pages, and I still save compared to what I would've spent on those supplies for paper scrapping.
----
So you don't print and bind your pages?
Yes I do, but I still save compared to what I would spend having to but paper scrapping products.
Regardless of whether you choose to use them over and over, they are still saving immensely. Even using a digikit only once, you still save a lot compared to paper scrapping even paying $10 on a kit.
^buy not but (oops)
The whole digi vs. paper argument is irrelevant.
Regardless of whether you choose to use them over and over, they are still saving immensely. Even using a digikit only once, you still save a lot compared to paper scrapping even paying $10 on a kit.
_______________________________
Ummm, no you're not. I'm a traditional and a digital scrapper. There's no way I spend $10 in paper scrapping supplies to make a few pages. No way. And when those pages are complete - they're complete. I don't have to print them and add that cost too.
^^^^
But it is less messy.

^^^
Duh, it's called saving for a rainy day or in this case, going out.
I can't spend specially just to go out, now, can I? No, I have to save, so I can then go out.
Don't argue semantics. Just don't.
Who? Who are the designers that are great but are not charging an arm and a leg?
^^^^
CU or PU?
PU - but I guess either really.
So it all comes down to choices - do you spend $10 on a digital kit or do you buy your margarita and a $3.00 kit?
-------
None of the above. I have more than enough kits that I don't use, why buy more? I'd rather spend $10 on dessert.
Asking for names of good bargain designers is a great question for the DST Boards.
Wow, bitter because you can't stay home with the kid(s) or are your sales slumping?
^^^Pretty sure that's a fake post - wouldn't click on that link.

I dont expect everthing made from scratch in a $3.00 kit however I do not see why you seem to think $3 is way too low.
I would rather sell a $4/5 kit to 100 scrappers than a $7 to just 40 scrappers

maybe they thought since you've been smacked enough on here that you wouldn't be posting with your real name... again...
I think it's because some jackass posted as "Sara" before and it wasn't Sara from DSA. I don't think it has anything to do with actual smacking.

Yes, except I don't think this happens. Even the best designers from the "Top Tier" stores are likely hard-pressed to sell 40 copies of the same kit, let alone 100 copies. It just doesn't happen in such an oversaturated market.

My observations?
Ditto.
^^^I agree
YUP
That's what I was thinking - nicely said.
What are they planning on making money off of, if not the designers.

The "tier" and "drama" thing aside, I wouldn't want to sell at this store. The owner (or whoever making this ad) can't even count.

LOL! That's super funny.
Haha!!! I hadn't noticed the funny math.
^^^
Was just going to say that. Frankly - an anonymous owner? And not even getting a name with a .com?
The owner's name is Alyssa. Have a field day with that one.
The call says that the owner will NOT be designing but only take care of the managing, advertising and such. Isn't Alyssa a designer?
Yes, except I don't think this happens. Even the best designers from the "Top Tier" stores are likely hard-pressed to sell 40 copies of the same kit, let alone 100 copies. It just doesn't happen in such an oversaturated market.

I think you would be very surprised. I don't sell in a top tier store and I sell well over 40 copies/kit on average. Many are well over 40 copies, but we all have stinkers sometimes.

The "tier" stuff aside, how do you become a top store when one of your main goals is to NOT make money off your designers?
Who is Alyssa?
Alyssa, lovingly called on this site as "Happy Tits" (referring to her blog header at that time), was Studio Demo. She created quite a big buzz around here back in late May - early June. If you have an extreme need to kill time, you may read more about her here:
http://dsthof.blogspot.com/2011/06/new-space.html
Otherwise, don't bother.
oh good lord have mercy - its THAT Alyssa? just LMAO here.....
^^^^
Uh, no, I didn't mean that the new store owner is THAT Alyssa. I thought the PP (is it you?) didn't know what the "joke" was about. ("The owner's name is Alyssa. Have a field day with that one.") Sorry if I confused you.
I think it's sick that people want unique/hand drawn/everything created from scratch kits for $3 or LESS.

Learn to read, we said we would pay around $10 for something unique.

The owner's name is Alyssa. Have a field day with that one.
---------
While I think that's funny, how do you know that?
Maybe she applied to the designer call?
That's now who I was told the owner was, as a result of the designer call.
^^^
You applied or what?
No. I was contacted by them. My email said they were contacting a few newer designers. One problem is I know nothing about the owner.
So you were contacted by the owner who happens to be named Alyssa?
No. I was contacted by them. My email said they were contacting a few newer designers. One problem is I know nothing about the owner.
------
That's weird. I'd be asking about the owner's credentials, even if you aren't interested.
The designer's name I was given is Bean Bunny (Janet). I know they've been discussed here beforehand, but that's a lot of comments to read through to try to figure out if she was an actual problem or just an association. That's the only thing I know of them, though.
Bean Bunny is/was one of Alyssa's best buddies. They even shared a CT. I'm sure if there is an Alyssa involved with the new site, it's Happy Tits.
I think it is that Alyssa. The childishness of the call, the name and now Bean Bunny? What's that saying? There's no such thing as a coincidence. Oh, and the whole With Love Studio after she was Studio Demo.
The fact that they are contacting newer designers speaks volumes. They don't want anyone who might have been around for the previous dramafest.
Bean bunny just posted something in the DCR asking for xcart skinning help.
Busted!
first off, everything they have for their site is FREE stuff. boo. and I got an email too. I want NOTHING to do with whats-her-tits or her slimy sidekick
You would think that BEFORE a store has a designer call that they would have their forum/shop/blog/SOMETHING set up already! Already what 6/7 of us have said we were invited? But they only want 10-12 designers?
I didn't see 6/7 saying they were invited, where did you see that?
I saw one or two people saying that.
I'd be surprised if they got that many to be honest. Are the people who posted turning it down?
You would think that BEFORE a store has a designer call that they would have their forum/shop/blog/SOMETHING set up already!
-----
Agreed. It's strange to have a designer call but have no where to put them.

I was invited and declined. They wanted me to leave my exclusive store for them. LMAO

Yeah, and I'm still waiting for the answer to my question as to which designers have left or are leaving, aside from Allison. Someone basically implied that quite a few have left over the last month or so. I haven't seen it.
anybody see this yet?
http://www.littledreamerdesigns.com/
subscription only???
-------
No, where does it say subscription only? I'm not seeing it on that page.
from what I see....its subscription only - $5 per month, and you can download what "content" they have available, plus "freebies". You have to 'subscribe' to access anything. nothing is actually for sale except the subscription itself.
^^^
All I see on that page is stay tuned, coming soon.
Strange.
^^^^
Ha! Now I see it. I had to refresh my page.
How can a freebie be a freebie if you have to pay a subscription fee to gain access?
What I dont get is site ct members enabling other stores but the one they ct when as per contract they are to enable the store and its designers. Why do these sites keep these people on the team especially if they are not pulling their own weight as far as what their contract states?
^^^^^
huh?
^^^^
That was my thought too.
Sounds like a CT member who is doing all she should be doing and is mad that others are not pulling their weight.
If you are a designer and your CT members aren't doing what you ask of them, get rid of them. You don't need them, you really don't.
If you are a store owner, same thing applies.
I've watched over the last few years how the whole CT thing has been completely blown out of proportion.
If you really want to have a CT, limit it to about five. There's no need for more. Five will do the job and you can keep your eye on them.
Personally, I would get rid of the lot, as they are not an accessory that I need.
I'm not a CT but I've heard stories of designers going apeshit crazy when a CT member leaves. So really you never know who to believe.
Holy brightness Batman!
http://www.gottapixel.net/store/product.php?productid=35260
Sorry for the rant, but it bothers me.
^^^
If you are not affiliated with the store - other than buying stuff you like there, I really don't see why you have your panties in a wad.
It really is none of your concern if they are doing 'their job'.
I agree. If you don't design there, what do you care? Are you so uptight that you won't buy from a designer/store if their ct doesn't 'behave' in the manner you think they should?
Get a grip
Holy brightness Batman!
http://www.gottapixel.net/store/product.php?productid=35260
-----------------
That's a far cry from being the brightest kit I've seen recently, and/or from Bella Gypsy's brightest kit, and doesn't seem worthy of pointing out here on a smack blog. My guess is you're attempting to enable it by posting something here that will make everyone look at it. Low, and stupid.
^^^^^^
12:41, I did the exact same thing and I think you are dead on.
I'm really missing their reviews too.
If you check on SuzyQ's freebie list after the blog train has started, you can get several previews that you can pick and click on the ones that seem interesting enough to start. Not 100% foolproof but could be a way to filter.
looked at the previews. I'm not even sure Urban Fairy was aware there was a palette. Same goes for Feli designs.
There is some horribly fucked up shit in this train. I guess there was no theme so brace yourselves.
No discussion that Brine Designs and Amy Stoffel have landed at 9th&Bloom? I see another designer there too, though no one I've ever heard of....Inspired Designs or something like that.
^^^
Scrapmatters is falling apart at the seams.
I'm really missing their reviews too.
-----------
^^^
Didn't Piers post a new review a week or two ago, before we got our new space? Shoot, I don't remember the link to the reviews blog but I thought she said a part 2 was also coming. Has anything else been posted?
Where in the world did Simon go?
You know what would be nice for the blog train? If you didn't have to go through all the yucky ones to get the good ones. Like the way some of the freebie sites are set up with thumbnails of everything that link to the blog post with the download. Then they would all be in one place and you could just grab the ones you like, or think you might like, and it would take so much less time.
--------------------
You know what else would be nice for the blog train? If they stopped letting the yucky designers participate at all. Good God Almighty. There's no need for 100+ stops when 90+ of them aren't worth anything. It should be invite-only.
^^^
But then, that would make even more gossip and hard feelings.
NO ONE will need something in these colors. Just saying.
there WERE a couple of nice palettes submitted for this blogtrain. they were voted out by the majority...and that majority are the ones you will see offering the 'yucky' stuff.
It won't matter what the palette is, there are some that would screw up the best palette in the world because they are simply bad designers.
No one is forcing you to.
yawn.
ROFL
yawn.

I don't have access to photobucket, who are the 20 'crap' we should avoid?
So don't preach to us. Some of us like the flexibility Trish is offering, and want the rest of you to shove it in your piehole every time you try imposing your opinions on the masses.
-----
She wasn't preaching, however, you most decidedly were. Take the chip off your own shoulder. The minute you get rude is the minute you lose any credibility you had, which was not much in the first place.

Oh the irony.

Credibility? On an anonymous smack blog??? LOLOLOLOL.
What a joke. They make such a big deal about checking in by the 28th for the blog train and then no one can actually follow-up as they said they would. It's not just Trish, she has helpers. Not one of them could follow-up on the date they said they would?
Oh. And the color palette is hideous.
Credibility? On an anonymous smack blog??? LOLOLOLOL.
------
Didn't I say which wasn't much in the first place? Didn't I? Why, yes I did. Go and LOL that.
------
If you are just a patron, how the heck does this situation effect you in any way, shape or form?
Holy brightness Batman!
http://www.gottapixel.net/store/product.php?productid=35260
-------
Not a fan of the designer but I do kinda like the kit. Not enough to purchase, but I do like it.
3-4 layouts a month times say 5 teams is 15 - 20 pages a month. Plus enabling. That is a lot.
-----
Say what? If the person decided to be on that many teams, that is a choice they made. One team equals 3-4 layouts a month. It's that simple.
Jeeeeezus.
------------
Exactly!
No discussion that Brine Designs and Amy Stoffel have landed at 9th&Bloom? I see another designer there too, though no one I've ever heard of....Inspired Designs or something like that.

Why should there be a discussion? Is there supposed to be drama?
How many Group members does it take
To change a lightbulb?
One to change the light bulb and to post
That the light bulb has been changed.
...
Fourteen to share similar experiences
Of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb
Could have been changed differently.
Seven to caution about the dangers
Of changing light bulbs.
Seven more to point out spelling/grammar errors
In posts about changing light bulbs.
Three to correct spelling/grammar errors.
Six to argue over whether it's
"lightbulb" or "light bulb".
Another six to condemn those six as stupid.
Fifteen to claim experience in
The lighting industry and give
The correct spelling.
Nineteen to post that this group is not
About light bulbs and to please take
This discussion to a lightbulb
(or light bulb) forum.
Eleven to defend the posting to the group
Saying that we all use light bulbs
And therefore the posts are relevant
To this group.
Thirty six to debate which method
Of changing light bulbs is superior,
Where to buy the best light bulbs,
What brand of light bulbs work best
For this technique and what brands
Are faulty.
Seven to post URLs where one can see
Examples of different light bulbs.
Four to post that the URLs were posted
Incorrectly and then post the corrected URL.
Three to post about links they found
From the URLs that are relevant
To this group which makes light bulbs
Relevant to this group.
Thirteen to link all posts to date,
Quote them in their entirety
Including all headers and signatures,

Five to post to the group that they will
No longer post because they cannot handle

Three to tell a funny story about
Their cat and a light bulb.
AND
One group lurker to respond to
The original post 6 months from now
With something unrelated and start it
All over again.
^^^
Funny.
^^^ and about 7 anonymous posters to argue and smack the person who thought they were even capable of changing said lightbulb, because who the hell do they think they are anyway?
Thanks for the laugh and should I say it, seen it before?
10 to say they'd seen it all before and could they please have a new thread

Trish completely dropped the ball with the blog train this month. Even with 'help', it's a wreck.

Yeah, I noticed that too. A shame.. also not all designers have posted their portion. I suppose there is no time for them to be posted.. but by today I guess?

Maybe some people have lives and don't wake up at the same timezone as you do. BTW if you look it is updated now.

You're a moron.

Maybe they could learn how to schedule a blog post. Maybe? It's not like they sell ONLINE or anything...
So, Scrappity-Doo-Dah updated their store/forum look. Looks TONS better, I think, and maybe a sign that they're doing some improvements to the site as a whole?
Of course, then I see that they added a new designer:
http://scrappity-doo-dah.com/store/manufacturers.php?manufacturerid=135
Yuck, yuck, yuck! So much for the improvement of the site!

Hehe... this made me giggle. Well played.
More than having a life, she - Trish- had surgery and has been heavily medicated.
oh please - I've had surgery before and still gotten my shit done, even while on heavy pain meds.
Was it emergency surgery? Or did she know about it ahead of time where she could schedule a post?
Anyway.. let's be nice to Trish, kk? I'm pretty sure we are a hard group to please!
Anyway the Blog Train Blog.. I went through all the links and this is what I downloaded. I still may pick and delete through it but here are the ones I took

Not sure if that helps anyone else.. but I figured I'd share.

I about pissed myself laughing.

OMG. what on earth are those things? swirls? yuck is right.
It's going to turn into an 'oh, poor me. I'm so unappreciated' situation. Like others have said, there is NO REASON she couldn't have delegated.
The tape worm - OMFG. Looks like someone got ArtRage and didn't know what to do with it.
