why don't you post a little tutorial here of how you'd like them saved, so we can all comply?

"I despise the previews that are made to appear as though the paper is on rolls. Who in the fuck buys scrapbook paper on rolls? Awful. Just awful."
--------------------
"Her papers aren't previews as being on rolls. I think what the poster above is talking about - unless it was just a general comment - were the "jeans" which look nothing like jeans at all. They don't even have a denim texture."
--------------------
" ^^ saw what you meant by rolls. How did you stare at it forever and not know who designed it? Click on a preview. Any of the ones there have her name on there big as life."
--------------------

I think the original poster was talking about her OTHER previews in her shop, not the one that was linked to. Her comment came just after saying she looked at the rest of the shop. Most of the other paper/kit previews show the paper on rolls. It does look pretty dumb.

Agree that the logo is huge and on lots of stuff. Does seem to be in a weird location on the main preview, though. I thought that it was word art for the kit at first (like a stamp). Aren't most logos either top/bottom or in a corner? So yeah I see the confusion.

----------------
In Photoshop, save the file as a TIFF.

When the dialog box appears, under image compression, choose LZW. Under layer compression, choose ZIP.

This will make a TIFF file about 25-50% of the size of a PSD file.

______
I already said *saw what you meant by rolls". You even quoted me saying it genius. I just knew some moron was going to come in here an post that even after I already acknowledged what they were talking about.

Anonymous said...

I wasn't responding to you. I was responding to the person who wrote "her papers aren't previewed as rolls"... because yes, they are. In almost every preview. Except the one referenced originally.

Quit name-calling. Totally unnecessary, seeing as how I didn't say anything bad/inflammatory about what you wrote, or to you. Chill.

No surprise to me. GP and Digitals are full of such "gross" kits.

I'm going to say this very slowly since you can't figure it out. Both posts were by the same person.

I hate when people don't save the TIFF files properly, either. So many "big name" designers in "top tier" stores don't know how to save them. When all you sell are templates, you'd think you'd know how to make them.

Speaking of huge files, I downloaded the freebie from Jumpstart Designs and it's 150mb! I'm sorry, but ONE template that is twice as large as a full kit? No thanks. There is a reason templates aren't made with textures...

Anonymous said...

Can we get a different word other than gross. You sound like you're five, and a moron.

August 31, 2011 9:46 AM

As if calling someone a moron makes you sound older than five...

Anonymous said...

she didn't say she was a moron. she said her choice of words makes her sound like one.

Anonymous said...

Good god.

Tell me you're not that stupid...

And you wonder why you're referred to as broads and bitches in here?

and/or, how in the fuck would you have expected any of us to know that?! it's all anon here, GENIUS. who would have known you came back later and re-posted?! JEEEEEEESUS.

Anonymous said...

wow. I figured after the post about having posted they said that it meant they posted both. But I guess I can see how someone might be confused. (not the op)

Can we get back to some reviews now?

Anonymous said...

Would love some reviews but it seems like all the reviewers have better things to do.

Anonymous said...

I despise the previews that are made to appear as though the paper is on rolls. Who in the fuck buys scrapbook paper on rolls?
------

Digi scrappers, duh!

Anonymous said...

^^^

Digital paper isn't on a roll, hello. It's digital. It isn't even paper. So why make it appear to be on a roll, when real scrapbook paper isn't even on a roll?! Makes no sense whatsoever.

Anonymous said...

I think the poster was being sarcastic, but that was lost on you, huh?

Anonymous said...

really, you are this hung up about it? Who cares what the heck they do in real paper scrapbooking, I'm not paper scrapping. And if digi paper isn't on a roll, what the heck are you complaining about? You are making no sense whatsoever.

Anonymous said...

I think the poster was being sarcastic, but that was lost on you, huh?
-------

I was and it apparently was.

Anonymous said...

Well, there were millions without power due to Hurricane Irene not to mention the flooding. Maybe the reviewers are affected by the storm.

It does seem quiet around here with the exception of the stupid poster who doesn't get anything said two posts prior, and the woman who doesn't like "gross" but will use the word "moron" repeatedly.

Anonymous said...

Can we get a different word other than gross. You sound like you're five, and a moron.

Uh, how about using another word instead of moron? That makes you sound like you're about 6.

Anonymous said...

I hate when people don't save the TIFF files properly, either.
-------

I hate it when they are too lazy to trim their PNGs. What's the point in all that 'white' space? Not for templates, as I understand the reasoning behind that, but for other things, like elements, etc.

Anonymous said...

And you wonder why you're referred to as broads and bitches in here?
-----

Yes, what is a broad? I haven't heard that word since the late 70s and then only by men.

Anonymous said...

I partially blame the stores with that. EVERY store should QC their designers and this should be on the checklist to fix.

Anonymous said...

Before anyone corrects me, I knew what the OP meant, but she still used the word and it makes her sound just as juvenile.

How come there are native English speakers who constantly spell ridiculous and genius wrong? Not to mention the frequent and irritating incorrect usages of apostrophes?

Getting the name of your store wrong is small potatoes. I've seen some of the English speaking gals do the exact same thing.

Wow, how nice of SDD to offer free pirated e-books to their book club! Interesting that in a community where pirating is a bitch slap in the face that they would openly offer this in a PUBLIC forum...Idiots

I don't see where they're giving away free e-books. The books they mention are all available for free from Amazon. Not exactly pirating.

Anonymous said...

This is the book list

The Devil in the white city by Erik Larson
The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton
The Island by Elin Hilderbrand
The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins
The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon
Reflections by Kathi Laurino

None of them are free.

This is where they are specifically asking for e-mail addresses to send the pirated books.

-----------------------
Even if something is available for free on Amazon, it's not ethical to give it away on your site for free. You're supposed to link to Amazon. Same way a designer doesn't want their freebie being pirated and given away in some other forum or on another blog... the designer wants the traffic to come to HER blog, so she can give it away herself.

Anonymous said...

I deplore piracy in all of its forms. And yes, that means I have paid for all the music on my iPod too.

Anonymous said...

Wow. I had to go see about the book pirates, sure enough. Look at this quote "I don't buy ebooks... I um... get them... somehow.. umm.... yay lol

so if anyone needs an ebook, let me know I can get it for you. NOt sure about Kindle though as they are different. but nook and sony ereaders I know I can do."

I can't believe people are so stupid.

Anonymous said...

wow! I can't believe they are talking so openly about PIRATING books! I have a friend who is an author and selling books on Amazon. He works hard and his books aren't expensive. There are so many free books out there, they could pick one of those.

I feel like creating an account and asking where I can get a free copy of the new IBD kit they reference in that thread.

Anonymous said...

That makes me sick. They are no better than a Digi kit pirating group.

You can get a free copy on SDD. It's the daily download.

Anonymous said...

well, since I knew Tiff reads this, I wasn't surprized to see her post today in that thread with "I hate to be a stick in the mud, but is it ethical to share ebooks like this?" LOL. Nice try, Tiff, but those gals are going to come up with every excuse as to why its ok for them to do it. Forget the niceties...its WRONG - its PIRATING - and you should stand your ground and say so!

Anonymous said...

Yes it is and I was very supprise to see this.

BTW I just saw that Lisetscrap left the store. Nothing mentionned she just left.

Anonymous said...

Thank you Tiffany for bringing up what is so obvious to the rest of us!

http://www.scrappity-doo-dah.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13603&page=7

Anonymous said...

^^^^^^^

Well, since it IS now obvious that Tiff reads here - I agree with the person a few posts up that said nice try, Tiff. If you bother reading that entire thread at SDD, you will see that Tiff was actively participating in the voiting and getting 'free' books UNTIL it was brought up today. So yeah, Tiff - nice try - but to make yourself look honest now you will have to tell them its PIRATING - - and drop the nice little 'is this ethical' crap - they won't get it .

Anonymous said...

I don't see that. I did read the thread and the only participation from Tiffany was "Count me in also." which appears to be before the piracy.

I would take that to mean she wanted to join in on the book club, not oh look she's a pirate. You're reaching.

Anonymous said...

She may not have asked for a pirated book but I don't believe she wasn't aware it was going on. If she wanted to be a part of the book club she would be following the thread. Suddenly today when it was brought up here she gets a dose of conscious. I'm not buying it. She's trying to save face and doing a piss poor job of it.

Anonymous said...

You assume she even has an e-reader and that people follow threads regularly. Not everyone has e-readers or checks back at threads they've posted in. Even book clubs. I'm on Tiff's CT and she isn't really good at checking threads and forums. I would not be surprised if she hadn't seen it until it was mentioned here. I don't know if she has an e-reader or not.

Anonymous said...

I agree with this person. She doesn't seem like she's the type to pirate. She has always taken a very strong stance against piracy. And she was probably made aware of SDD being mentioned the same way I was made aware of Tiff being mentioned, through someone who READS the blog.

As far as this whole piracy thing goes, I am shocked & appalled. I doubt Yvonne knows about it, she doesn't put up with that shit, at all.

And Lisete has a big big announce on Friday: http://lisetescrap.com/blog/

Anonymous said...

It doesn't look like Yvonne cares all that much, her response isn't even lukewarm. And now the pirate is going through erasing her posts. Like that will fix it.

Yvonne and Tiff's posts look odd now that the original pirate post has been editied

Anonymous said...

Regarding the SSD thread. Please don't lump everyone on that thread as pirates. I know that I made a few comments in the beginning of the thread and forgot about it until it was mentioned here. I just assumed I'd either buy the book or get it from the library. Not all of us have kindles or even like to read electronically! And no I'm not Tiff.

Anonymous said...

I think it's pretty funny to watch them all scramble and try to sweep it under the rug. The pirate deleting and editing her posts, the owner coming back and making a blanket 'no sharing' statement, and the heavy trying to distract from it on the thread.

Drama Queen said...

If I was Yvonne I'd kick that woman to the curb, along with everyone who gave their email addresses to get the free books. That is bullshit. They are all going to get away with it now! If any of these designer or members were in one of my stores, the owners would kick their sorry asses out. I don't think most of the people posting even knew what was going on until today. And at the end "I removed my post" with a big grin, really? That shit eating grin gets on my nerves behind that comment. It says to me she KNOWS what she was doing, and does not care.
Re Lisete: It is odd that Lisete would release a product to SDD if she was closing the store. Stranger things have happened though.

Anonymous said...

The store owner's response is so "we got caught now I have to pretend like I give a shit". Maybe she'll care a little more if someone reports them to Amazon and Barnes and Noble.

Anonymous said...

Drama Queen, did you really go make an account just for posting on the smack blog?

Anonymous said...

And do you really think Amazon will do anything about it? Honestly. What about that book about molesting children that they refused to take a stance on?

Anonymous said...

I know the case you are talking about and it wasn't a book about molesting children, not in the strict sense, otherwise there would have been no issue about it's removal.

What makes you think she didn't care?? She probably didn't even know about it. My goodness, Yvonne is very good person and wouldn't condone pirating from anyone or any corporation in any way.

You people are really making this into something bigger than it is. Yes the person who suggested the pirating was wrong, but to start blaming other designers and the store owner is just wrong. Just stop all this bullshit now. Some of you are just itching to smack regardless.

Anonymous said...

Right. I know a lot of good people, yet they don't think twice about downloading movies and music. It doesn't make them bad people for doing it. It's not the right thing to do, but seriously, it automatically makes them bad people? Maybe you need to stop the bullshit.

Anonymous said...

I actually feel bad for the SDD pirate. It's obvious that SDD is/was a huge part of her life, since she has thousands of forum posts plus her DST gallery is crammed with layouts made with SDD stuff (yeah, I was bored enough to go look). The posters here will get their jollies by smacking her for a few days before they move on to someone else, but it's possible that she just lost something that is really important to her. She shouldn't have been pirating anything, but she probably would have gotten a quiet slap on the wrist if it weren't for this blog. I suspect that would have been more than enough to deter her from piracy on the forum in the future, so banning seems like overkill to me. I don't know her from Adam, but I think she's been thrown under the bus to make the anon posters here happy.

Really?
---------------------
These were in the NSD grab bag, which I bought & the rest of the items were great but these seemed like they were thrown in as an afterthought. Kinda wierd. I ended up throwing them in my PU stash as I wouldn't ever use them for CU but they're OK for journaling on my LOs. I really only ever buy her overlays & textures anyway, she should probably stick to that.

I don't think banning is too harsh because the pirate was some sort of official there. That makes it look like the site is involved, and if I was the owner I'd ban them too rather than risk my business.
------------------------------------
I would have banned them too. If they are on the store CT and are pirating books, it's possible they are also pirating the kits they are getting as CT members. I wouldn't take that chance.

------------------
This is exactly what I was thinking. If someone's willing to pirate something, they're willing to, um... pirate something. I'd never let any known pirate participate as a member of the community in any store I ran. Never.

You're one of those parents who gets mad when a school principal/teacher calls and tells you that your kid got in trouble at school, right? "Don't punish my kid! He's a saint! It makes him sad!"

W. T. F. ??! In society, it's important for there to be consequences for actions. Piracy SHOULD equal a loss of a big/important privilege. It's how someone learns a lesson for the future. A quiet slap on the wrist just teaches someone not to get caught. It's "lazy parenting."

--------------------

I laughed so hard when I read this, and I wish I could high-five the person who wrote it. WHY DON'T MORE PEOPLE UNDERSTAND THIS????

Also, what is going on w/ the poster who keeps using the term "hard on" when referring to people who smack SDD on this blog? It makes no sense.

Today's language lesson: where I come from, the term "hard on" is used as a reference to what happens when someone is attracted to/by something/someone else. So saying someone has a "hard on" for SDD because they keep smacking it on this blog makes zero sense. Clearly they don't have a hard on for SDD, but you obviously have a hard on for using that term.

Urban dictionary does define hard-on as a slang term used in a way that makes sense in the drama queen's posts.

Hi Guys, yes I was reading here yesterday, but no, I am not Drama Whore. Otherwise, I don't let it bother me. I enjoy designing, and I have customers who enjoy my products..and that is what matters.

Please, if we missed someone in the banning, would you please let us know who? We do not condone piracy, in any way of anything.

It would be a much shorter post to tell you the positive things about your design work (or should I say recoloring of cu items) than to critique the bad things about them. And I won't even get started on how your templates look like a bad freebie train wreck.

---------------------
I have zero affiliation w/ Sweet Mesquite and I have no idea who you are, but it's pretty obvious to ALL of the rest of us that you have a personal issue w/ her, and it's very doubtful that it's JUST about her designs. Every time her name comes up, someone (presumably you) w/ the same tone and way of writing gets on here and posts mean-spirited, nasty things about her. I am guessing that you're the only one who feels that way, though. It really doesn't seem to be more than one person. And further, you have yet to offer up anything (ANYTHING!) concrete about WHAT it is you hate so much. Generalizations and nastiness just make the rest of us think that you have a personal grudge. And that's fine, feel free, but I'm here to tell you that we're all bored with it so why don't you go post it on your blog instead. You're boring us.

Anonymous said...

dang, I just looked at her store and it's really not that bad. not my taste personally, but not any different/worse than anything else I see on the market. would have to agree w/ the PP that there's a grudge somewhere here, because there are a billion worse designers than this lady.

Anonymous said...

ITA with the previous two posters. Anyone with that type of animosity in their posts has to have some sort or personal issue. In my experience people usually do not care that much about someone they feel is a sub-par designer.

Anonymous said...

oh that's a bunch of shit and you all know it. You come on here to a smack blog waiting for gossip and reviews. You may not agree with what she said about SM's designs but she didn't attack her personally. She talked about the product. So is everyone here that says something bad about another designer just venting a personal grudge?

Anonymous said...

Not what anyone said. It just seems that when someone is especially nasty to a designer, especially a no-name designer there is something more going on. It may be a personal grudge, a CT issue, a competitive issue, or something else.

Anonymous said...

I didn't see that as especially nasty. I've seen much worse here.

Anonymous said...

I didn't see that as especially nasty. I've seen much worse here.
--------------
Well, haven't we all? But one time I saw worse was a couple of weeks ago when someone (again, possibly the same person as today) smacked Sweet Mesquite and called her names and said things that had NO relation to designs. It's clear someone here doesn't like her. Let's not argue the obvious.

Anonymous said...

I think people are assuming the person that responded is the same person that has talked about Sweet Mesquite before. Previous posts have been "nasty" and personal talking about her weight and calling names.

If that is the case I agree with the previous posters. There does seem to be someone with a problem with Sweet Mesquite on this blog. I don't know if that is the person that recently responded to her though.

Anonymous said...

So is everyone here that says something bad about another designer just venting a personal grudge?

September 2, 2011 3:34 PM
--------------------------

When they say something about a person's personal appearance or call them names that have NOTHING to do with their work? YES, absolutely it's a personal grudge. Because the nature of the smack is personal. And if you just don't care for someone's designs, what is the motivation to make your smack personal unless IT IS personal? Unless the person is just some mean-spirited hag who probably doesn't like herself too much, so she tears down others for the fun of it.

If the smack was reserved for the designs alone, I would reason they are just someone who doesn't care for your work/style for one reason or another. But that's not always how things roll here.

Anonymous said...

I just took a quick look through her store and while I do not own any, so I cannot speak for the quality, her stuff does not look that bad. Simple in design, yes. But not horrid. I have seen much much worse out there. I did skip the templates because those don't interest me anyway. But I agree, whoever left that comment must have a grudge of some sort. It was uncalled for. And no, I don't know this designer at all. I was just curious after reading the comments here. And SM, you may be underpricing a bit. I mean $2-3 for a kit? Wow. Low.

Ya know, it's one thing to smack talk my products on here..or even ME..but to bring my kids & personal things off my facebook page onto here?!? That's uncalled for & unnecessary. I don't know who you are, but you must have a pretty pathetic life to be this interested in mine. Especially since I am a "no-name designer". This reeks of personal vendetta, & I have an idea who you are (or y'all are). And to post on a smack blog about the CPS investigation?! that's such CRAP!!

Yes, I was reported to CPS for bogus charges by someone I *thought* was a friend. The case has been closed. The caseworker said it was "bogus". If I could out you to the world, I totally would. But with no DEFINITE proof, I can not.

And yes, I posted on my facebook page about being talked about on here....after the CPS investigation was brought into it. Because that's PERSONAL!!! If you want to call it a pity party, fine, call it a pity party. What I see it as is a bunch of people from my real life and my digital lif, who all agree this is bullshit.

Anonymous said...

I think anyone who starts bringing personal attacks about character/appearance/etc is sad and pathetic. Smack blogs in general are pathetic enough - but hey, it's a guilty pleasure enough of us share. But for someone to post about what Beth is posting about on her personal facebook page and to throw out allegations surrounding CPS. That is tacky and cruel, spiteful and hateful - and completely and utterly disgusting. Go crawl back into the hole you oozed out of.

Anonymous said...

^^^^^

Go and enjoy your kids, ignore the troll. You don't own anyone any explanation about anything. In fact, you could have made things worse by explaining. I would say that most here would have thought the CPS reference was total BS, you really shouldn't have confirmed that it did happen, even if it was bogus in the end.

^^^^^

About this. First of all, either this person w/ the vendetta is on SM's friend list on FB, or SM needs to add some damn privacy settings to her page (and if the latter is the case, SM please get a clue! privacy online is important!).

If the person is on SM's FB friend list, she should be able to figure out who it is. At least, one would assume.

Finally, my last kernel of advice: it's pretty clear to me (using the comments I quoted, above) that the vendetta-holder is another designer OR a CT, etc. at SDD. Otherwise, why all of the jealous rage about SM talking to the owner? That's just IMO.

SM... if I were you, I'd use these ideas to figure out who you should trim off your FB friend list. Well, IMO nobody should ever be friending people on FB they don't actually know... but that's your call. Obviously, though, one of your co-workers/FB friends has a little prob with you. So being mad that someone is using personal info against you is sorta hard to feel sympathy for, when you're the one broadcasting that info to people you clearly don't know very well. Wise up. For the sake of your kids/family.

Anonymous said...

This reminds me of the attacks on Gina Miller once upon a time. I wish we would go back to the reviews. To the person attacking SM, you are pathetic.

To SM, not everyone thinks these things about you. It looks like one maybe two people with a problem are posting. Ignore them. I don't believe anyone else feels the same way.

I would have to agree. When one of my friends on FB is having a bad time, they may make a passing reference on their profile and then I'll email or inbox them for more info. They can either choose to clue me in or not, but they don't make it public.

****and on another note****

a while back Hunnybee Designs had a slight piracy problem with a chickie by the name of Michelle McCoy, aka Crafty Scraps (selling at ScrapbookMax). At the time, it was obvious from the information posted by Lissa (Hunnybee) that this Michelle had taken Lissa's freebies and used them in her own kits. These were PU items - and Michelle didn't bother to even recolor or change them up! Michelle claimed that she had 'mixed up her folders', didn't realize they were PU...blah blah blah. Most of those who were reading along agreed that she was lying then...and trying to cover her own behind. Miserably.

Seems she is at it again. Check out this new post:

http://www.hunnybeedesign.com/blog/2011/09/new-chapter-in-the-more-piracy-saga/

With all the proof that Lissa has provided - its so very obvious that this Michelle stole once again. She provided so called 'proof' of where she got the items Lissa is claiming she stole....which only makes her story even more unbelieveable, as its clear from the photo's that she pirated them from Hunnybee Design.

I read that the store disabled the items in question - and that 4shared took down the freebie download. I would like to know WHY she is still being allowed to sell in a shop??? Twice caught pirating? from the same person??? She should be kicked to the curb (much like the book pirater's at SDD)

Designers - - beware. She may have items of yours in her kits also. I'm off to have a look myself.

I have emailed her to address it. Hopefully she complies with my request without too much trouble. I hate drama like this, but I also won't stand for my terms being blatantly violated, either.
