I think you meant Libel...

Sticking to my promise, new space for you all, this one is for you 8pm. I know my blog readers have attempted to change the topic to anything remotely digi, but I feel the need to throw in my 2 cents, as these comments are directed towards me.

By Amanda Dykan -
"I was told that the owner(s) of the blog would receive a visit from their local precinct this week. And, now that I know who that party is, I am seriously thinking of filing for penalties against her- for defamation of character, slander and malicious persecution (to say the least)."

*removed name due to a polite designer request*
"Go for it. Seriously."

Go for it. Seriously? She is being encouraged? I can't figure out my criminal role here, so if someone can enlighten me, I will begin working on my defense strategy. I know I wasn't in Dallas over the weekend shootin' up the town, so if Amanda can let me know when the local PD will be stopping by my house, I will be sure to be home, I wouldn't want to miss their visit. If I have cell block internet access, I will be sure to post an update and give you an address in which you can send bail money. Witch hunt? Scare tactic? I don't know, I don't care, but I am not losing sleep over this because I have done nothing wrong. I truly hope Amanda knows FOR SURE who she has targeted as the blog owner, and I hope that she realizes the burden of proof that I personally did any of the following: defamation of character, slander and malicious persecution falls to her. Good luck.

Here is my topic for discussion:
Does the behavior of a designer, her CT, her supporters, or the company she chooses to "clique" with influence your purchasing decisions? Is it just about the product someone is selling, or does personality, professionalism, marketing strategies influence how you spend your dollar? Feel free to give some specific examples if you wish.

My answer: Absolutely, I can say I never have registered in any of Amanda's stores, nor will I make a purchase from her or anyone that has anything to do with her...ever. *removed name*, you can consider me a "former customer." Likewise for other designers that continually exhibit unprofessional, over-emotional behavior. I may be an anonymous blog owner, and the readers here are anonymous blog posters, but please remember that we are your customers, or not. I personally will support designers that exhibit a passion for what they do, those that act professionally and take pride in their work, make contributions to the digital "community" in a positive way, and have a product that is unique and well executed. I am a picky and discerning buyer, I diligently navigate this relatively small industry, and purposely search out designers that exhibit all of the above qualities.
Please don't mistake this as a threat, it is my opinion. Others may share that opinion or disagree, frankly it makes no difference to me. I will leave this blog open for others to freely express their opinions either with me or against me. Game on.

*Edited 8/6* I have received an email from the designer named above, politely requesting her name be removed.

whoops, that was supposed to be Amanda Dykan. SORRY!

Does anyone know why Micheline Martin left SSD to go to ScrapArtist? Just curious.

Anonymous said...

Because SSD sucks?

Yep - I think that pretty much sums it up!

Anonymous said...

LOL! I think it is just a better fit for her. I read on her blog the other day that she feels like it's a better fit for her style - and I tend to agree.

Anonymous said...

I also think it's a better fit for Micheline's style.

SSD is just so one-dimensional. All their kits started looking the same to me a LONG time ago. There's only so much cutesy-cutesy I can scrap with!

Oh I so totally agree with you on that! Unless all you want to scrap is cutesy kids layouts, you'll not find much there. That's why I thought it was so odd for Misty Cato to go there. She used to have such a distinctive, rich and classy style, with some fun cutesy kid stuff thrown in every once in a while. Now she's doing the Sweet-Shop-cutesy flavor only, and I'm really disappointed. I miss her old designs, that I really think she was better with.

ITA with the comments on Misty Cato. I was shocked and disappointed when she moved over there-I NEVER would have thought of her as SSD style. Now all she does is that cutesy wootsy stuff and I miss her old stuff :(

you better watch out - you too could be on the list for a visit from your local precinct for making such errors.

SSD is called "Sweet Shoppe", of course their designs are going to be sweet.

I've been shopping at the Shabby Pickle. Yep, they are a little more pricey, but at least some of their designers have originality. I guess I'd rather pay for that, than cookie cutter, seen it all before, like so many of the stores at the moment.

I'm so glad someone else feels the same way about Misty Cato. I was so disappointed - I LOVED her style before she moved. Now? I don't have little kids, so up until the latest collab with Krystal, there hasn't been anything I could even use.

Wow, I guess there are a lot of us who miss Mistys old style! i'm another! (sure wish someone would point Misty here so she could see how many fans miss her old style!)

Anonymous said...

Go back to SBE Misty! Your style is unique and missed.

I do think it's good for a store to have a unique kind of style because that's what creates their identity. Sweet Shoppe is a great place to go for cute baby/kid kits.

If I want fresh, colorful, trendy stuff with lots of patterns(but not too cute), I'd go to WST.

If I were scrapping old world travel photos, heritage photos, or wedding albums, I'd choose a store like Scrapartist, CRD or Scrapbookgraphics.

I'm glad different stores offers different things.

The worst thing about SSD is that so many of their designers re-use the same elements in kit after kit. Look in 10 Melissa Bennett kits, and you'll find the same stuff recolored over and over. It's cute the first time, but how about something original!

Talk about original, how about this grab bag? She's calling a set of rooms a 'unique never before seen type of kit'? Rooms have been done and re-done! And $8 for a grab bag? WTF? http://shop.scrapscandistyle.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=1515

ITA--and many of the same (recolored or slightly rearranged) patterns in paper after paper after paper. . .

Glad that there are lots of alternatives out there!

And I also have to agree on Misty Cato-miss her old style!

PPF closes. Discuss?

I call bullshit. It looks open to me.

But if it did close, I doubt that it would be widely missed.

No bullshit.

Sorry on the bullshit call-I didn't mean to sound rude. I just went to PPF after I saw that post. That'll teach me not to look around more! *blush*

I work for a company with an approach very much like Amanda's....they are into everything and do a good job at nothing. The ones that suffer are the employees.

I found her statement about the bud club (ahem) interesting.

*disclaimer for the idiots* The above words are my OPINION.

Must admit my first reaction was "I dont have time is Dykanese for 'everyone is bitching about me, the designers are leaving cos i dont pay them and I am not making any money from the store'"

Anybody got a more up-to-date phrasebook?

Anonymous said...

ITA! My Dykanese translation was that 'I don't have time' stood for 'I've run this place into the ground and PPF could never recover from my latest tantrum.'

I don't understand why she's closing PPF while, I'm assuming, Get Digi Withit, or whatever it's called, stays open. Wouldn't it make more sense to close the store that's not as well known and has less designers. Pretty typical really.

Or Shabby Pickle. I'm not really understanding why it's getting the cold shoulder. The kits there are cheaper than WST and just as fun and funky. The Pickle has improved since it first opened. I'm glad I gave them another chance. I'll admit, I wasn't into what Kasia was doing over at WST but she seems to have found her style over at SP.

6:46, ITA! Has anyone looked at the GDWI site? I know it's supposed to be a hybrid store, with paper products and digi products, but half of the designers have empty stores. I think they've only had their 'soft' opening, but you'd think there would at least be products there, even if the store isn't fully open yet. Plus, it looks like Blythe Evans has left there, too. Smart lady!

Anonymous said...

I also like Shabby Pickle. They have fun, funky stuff for MUCH better prices than WAS. I have no idea how or why people are paying for the stuff over at WAS. My LO better scrap itself for the prices they want over there! :)

Anonymous said...

6:56, I looked at GDWI. once. Saw that all of the crowing about paper companies working with her was mostly BS, by the looks of what(if anything!) was listed under the manufacturers. Then I quickly hit my browser's back button and have had no inclination to go back! The whole recent foofala just tells me that I made the right decision.

My sentiments exactly! I haven't bought one thing from WAS because of the prices and because I just simply can't stand their previews! I really like Shabby Pickle, it's one of my go to stores these days.

I'm assuming Get Digi With It isn't closing because it isn't owned by Amanda. It's owned by Design Originals.

Love Shabby Pickle, especially Kasia and Holly.
Love SSD too, but to each their own.
Never even been to PPF, so that doesn't effect me at all.

Oh, I hadn't thought of that. Could be.

Anonymous said...

GDWI is owned by Amanda and some partner or friend of hers.

Anonymous said...

forgot to say that 1/2 of Design Originals is Amanda. That used to be on the About Us page of GDWI-but I haven't felt the inclination to go back since my inital visit. Maybe she took that info off the page after she made such an ass of herself all over digi-land?

Anonymous said...

I find it hard to believe that half of Design Originals is Amanda since they cover all kinds of crafts. I have no doubt she's on their design team or whatever and does the digi side and founded Get Digi With It, but I don't believe she's a half owner of Designer Originals or anything. They've been around since forever.

Anonymous said...

Design Originals has been around for a long time, so no, it isn't owned by Amanda. It's a big company. And I've had their books before digi.

Do a little research. Google is your friend.
